I haven't a clue what the problem might be. With 4.1.0 After promote - Demote everything seems to look exactly as after having opened the document

@Terry Yang
"Not Correct" is a too vague description. Can oyu please explain more clearly what you expect, what you observe and why you think that what you observe s wrong?

Summary:

It is my estimation this bug report is about compatability between MS Office Powerpoint and OO.o Impress. When creating a list in Powerpoint, similar to the one in the document supplied by the reporter, the list in Impress behaves very differently from Powerpoint when demoting/promoting.

It could be argued that this behaviour is indeed a bug, since a user migrating to Impress may have to redo lists where (s)he wishes to promote/demote items, while keeping a consistent appearance of the list.

System info:
Windows 8 - Dell Vostro 3500

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.0
AOO410m18(Build:9764) - Rev. 1589052
2014-04-22 11:43:54 (Di, 22 Apr 2014)

Powerpoint 2010 SP2 (Version 14.0.7121.5000)
Steps to reproduce:

- Start MS Powerpoint 2010
- Create a bulleted list like in the reporter’s example
- Save as Powerpoint 97-2003 Presentation (I attached my result)
- Load newly created ppt into Impress 4.1.0
- Click inbetween the diamond and the B on the third line in the rightmost list
- Click Shift-Tab to promote
- Cycle through the bullets, fully demoting the item with Tab

Several problems are observed:

1) Where in Powerpoint the bullet is portrayed by the diamond, in Impress it is some unidentified list consisting of '>>', bullet, diamond and dash
2) Where in Powerpoint item #3 fully promoted is fully left-aligned, in Impress it is suddenly seems right-aligned. This is counter intuitive for a fully promoted item for text that is read from left to right.

Comment 7 Divya 2017-05-14 01:12:38 UTC
I could successfully reproduce the bug on my computer with the below mentioned configuration.

Testing Environment:
•	Windows 7 Enterprise, 64 Bit.
•	HP Elite Book,
•	Processor: i5-6300 CPU @2.30 GHz and Ram: 8GB
•	Open Office Writer-4.1.1, AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669
•	MS PowerPoint 2016

Steps to Reproduce:

Method 1: Using Impress
1.	Open a new Impress document.
2.	Select any layout and add few lines of text.
3.	Select all lines and assign any bullets style. (Format>Bullets and Numbering)
4.	Demote few bullet lines.
5.	Save the presentation as .ppt () format, you can do that by selecting the Save as Type as Microsoft PowerPoint 99/2000/XP (.ppt) option. (File>Save As>)
6.	Now open the file using OO Impress.
7.	Edit the presentation by trying to promote or demote a bullet, and you will observer that the bullet style changes to some other shape.

Method 2: Using MS Power Point
1.	Open a new MS PowerPoint document.
2.	Select any layout and add few lines of text.
3.	Select all lines and assign any bullets style. (Home>Bullets option)
4.	Demote few bullet lines.
5.	Save the presentation, it will save in the .ppt or .pptx based on the version you have.
6.	Now open the file using OO Impress.
7.	Edit the presentation by trying to promote or demote a bullet, and you will observer that the bullet style changes to some other shape.

Following are the follow up tests which I did:

Test 1. Using Bullets:

Using the above created file, select a style of bullets and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file and edit the file by clicking on a bullet, just between the bullet and the text and try to promote or demote.

Expected result: The Bullets style should remain the same.
Actual result: The bullets style changes to a random new shape. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Test 2. Using Numbers:

Using the above created file, select a style of Numbers and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file using OO impress and edit the file by clicking on a number, just between the number and the text and try to promote or demote.

Expected result: The Number style should remain the same.
Actual result: The number style changes to a random new shape in my test it changed to regular bullets. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Test 3. Using Graphics bullets:

Using the above created file, select a style of Graphics under the Bullets Numbering option, and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file using OO impress and edit the file by clicking on one of the line, just between the alphabet and the text and try to promote or demote.

Expected result: The graphic style should remain the same.
Actual result: The graphic bullet changes to a random new shape in my test it changed to regular bullets. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Test 4. Using Alphabets:

Using the above created file, select a style of Alphabets under the Bullets Numbering option, and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file using OO impress and edit the file by clicking on one of the line, just between the alphabet and the text and try to promote or demote.

Expected result: The Alphabets style should remain the same.
Actual result: The Alphabets bullet changes to a random new shape in my test it changed to regular bullets. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Test 5. Using Tab and Shift Tab:

Using the above created file, select a style of bullet under the Bullets Numbering option, and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file using OO impress and edit the file by clicking on one of the line, just between the alphabet and the text and try to promote or demote using Tab and Shift Tab

Expected result: The bullet style should remain the same.
Actual result: The bullet changes to a random new shape in my test it changed to regular bullets. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Test 6. Using Promote and Demote Buttons on menu bar:

Using the above created file, select a style of bullet under the Bullets Numbering option, and save the file in .ppt format. Open the file using OO impress and edit the file by clicking on one of the line, just between the alphabet and the text and try to promote or demote using the buttons on the menu bar (Right and Left Arrow buttons).

Expected result: The bullet style should remain the same.
Actual result: The bullet changes to a random new shape in my test it changed to regular bullets. And on further demoted or prompted it changes to a next shape.

Additional findings from follow tests:
1.	Newer version of MS office PowerPoint (2016):
I have observed that this problem even happens when trying to save in the new format .pptx format and opened with OO impress.

2. Presentation with background colors and Pictures:
I have observed that this behavior is consistent with or without having a background on the slide which included animation or pictures. This behavior is also consistent on any slide including Master slide.

Compared to Competition: I compare the similar functionality in MS office PowerPoint document, and the bullets/Number formatting is retained when a specific bullet is either promoted or demoted.

Other Related Bullet’s related bugs in Bugzilla:
•	Issue 22657 - Incorrect export to PowerPoint XP bulleted text problem.
•	Issue 125379 - Bullet format does not copy/paste
•	Issue 75646 - Impress: bullet position is displayed wrongly after undo
•	Issue 125611 - AOO does weird things if one tries to use multiple master pages with different bullet styles
•	Issue 81356 - Impress: pasting across files messes up bullet style
•	Issue 29061 - MS PowerPoint animated bullets failure

Summary:
Bug is consistently happening in all my test cases. A file which is saved in .ppt format when opened using OO Impress is retaining the bullets format, but when we try to edit a bullet by either promoting or demoting a bullet point it is losing the bullet style.
This does not happen if the file is saved in the OO impress (.odp) format, and opened and edited using OO impress. So, this is a clear case of compatibility issue between MS Office .ppt file with OO .odp format files

I suggest to update the title:
Bullets and Numbering does not remain the same after demoting or promoting at try to edit them for an MS Office .ppt file

Summary:
A file that is saved in .ppt format when opened using OpenOffice Impress is retaining the bullets format, but when we try to edit a bullet by either promoting or demoting a bullet point it is losing the bullet style. Also for Numbering bullets and customized alphabet, the next number is not updated with the previous or next number or letter.
This issue does not happen if the file is saved in the OpenOffice Impress (.odp) format, and opened and edited using it.

Testing Environment:
OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit environment.
Processor: i5-6300 CPU @2.30 GHz and Ram: 8GB
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.7 Impress AOO417m1(Build:9800) - Rev. 46059c9192 2019-09-03 12:04
MS PowerPoint 2019 used to compare with Impress

Scenario 1: Promote and demote Bullets for a ppt file saved on Impress.
Steps:
1. Open OpenOffice
2. Select Presentation
3. Create a new presentation e.g. using presentation wizard
4. On the layout add few lines of text
5. Select all lines
6. Go to Format>Bullets and Numbering…
7. Assign any bullets style
8. Demote few bullet lines by clicking Tab also you can Promote by clicking Shift + Tab
9. Go to Files> Save as Type as Microsoft PowerPoint 99/2000/XP (.ppt) option.
10. Open the file saved on OpenOffice
11. Edit the presentation by trying to promote or demote a bullet

Actual result: The bullet-style changes to some other shape.
Expected result: The Bullets style should remain the same.

Scenario 2: Promote and demote Bullets for a pptx file saved on MS PowerPoint 2019.
Steps:
1. Have a ppt or a pptx file with bullets e.g Testbulletsppt or/and Testbullletspptx
2. Open the file saved on OpenOffice
3. Edit the presentation by trying to promote or demote a bullet

Actual result: The bullet-style changes to some other shape.
Expected result: The Bullets style should remain the same.

Follow-up tests:
• Promote and demote Bullets for an ODP file saved on OpenOffice. This issue is not replicated so It was verified that the Bullets style should remain the same
• Using other Bullets style using Tab to Demote and Shift-Tab to Promote. The same issue is replicated
• Using Numbers using Tab to Demote and Shift-Tab to Promote. The same issue is replicated. Also, the numbering sequence is lost
• Using Graphics bullets using Tab to Demote and Shift-Tab to Promote. The same issue is replicated
• Using Customize: Alphabets using Tab to Demote and Shift-Tab to Promote. The same issue is replicated. Also, the numbering sequence is lost
• Using Promote and Demote buttons on the menu bar. This issue couldn’t be replicated because the Promote and Demote buttons do not enable in the menu bar.

Additional findings from the following tests:
1. I have observed that this problem even happens when trying to save in the new format .pptx or ppt format and opened with OpenOffice Impress but not for ODP format.
2. Not only the bullets are wrong (does not remain the same bullet) Also de the numbering sequence is not updated at demoting or promoting.

Compared to Competition: I compare the similar functionality in the MS office PowerPoint document, and the bullets/Number formatting is retained when a specific bullet is either promoted or demoted but the size of the bullets or numbering is not the same.
I also noticed that the open ODP file on PowerPoint loses the bullet promote or demote format.

This issue should be fixed because it is important to edit ppt or pptx files with the correct bullets to have a clear and good presentation and can share it. For user who use Power Point or OpenOffice or similar
