Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 121080
printing on PDF format or Preview by print panel ignores page orientation
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:28:02 UTC
Created attachment 79619 [details] spreadsheet oriented in landscape creation of a PDF file via the print panel (as well as Preview) ignores the orientation set in Format|Page|Page settings. In the attached example orientation is set to landscape, while the PDF obtained is in portrait. File|Export in PDF format does work correctly. Model of printer used: Canon MX340; driver version 10.57.2.0.
I was unable to replicate the bug on my system. I'm using Windows 7 and AOO 3.4.1. This may be a Mac only bug, but I don't have a Mac to test. Here's what I did: - Opened the file and noticed it was landscape - Used the generate pdf button on the toolbar - The pdf was correct, so I generated another using the button in print preview mode - Created my own file and set it to landscape - Tried export to pdf in both normal view and print preview - pdf was still correct This bug may be related to an issue brought up all the way back in 2.0, which is still unconfirmed. Hi Paul, thanx for your quick answer. But it's not clear to me if you tried to use the print panel, 'cause it's only here that the error occurs; I must print from the menu "File!Print..." - and the subsequent print panel - because only here it let me choose to print a selection of cells, instead of the entire sheet. I add 2 screenshots that show the behaviour for the preview (for PDF is the same).
Paul and I just worked on this together on a Lenovo W530 Windows 7 using version AOO340m1 Build 9590. Create a file with a landscape orientation. The attached file has 0.5 inch margins everywhere and text that runs from margin to margin, to make misprints obvious. Then (a) page preview. It looks correct (b) click the PDF icon on the toolbar while looking at page preview. It prints correctly, but the print preview itself gets slightly messed up (a vertical bar appears on the screen at about where the portrait margin would be) (c) exit page preview and select File | Print. Select the Adobe PDF driver. It prints correctly.
Created attachment 79688 [details] Landscape document, 2 pages, odt format This is the landscape document that we worked with
Created attachment 79689 [details] PDF output This looks correct. Both docs look the same. This is a writer file rather than a spreadsheet. I will post results for the spreadsheets (same test, different program) in a moment.
Created attachment 79690 [details] 1-page spreadsheet in landscape This document fills the entire width of the page (0.5" margins) and prints a single page in landscape
Created attachment 79691 [details] Landscape document ExportAsPDF from Page Break
Landscape PDF generated from the Page Break Preview view, selected File|Export as PDF
Created attachment 79692 [details] Landscape Doc ExportDirectly button from Page Break This document (same result) is from Page Break Preview view, but I pressed the Export Directly as PDF button
Created attachment 79693 [details] From Page Preview (not Page Break Preview View) Back to Normal View, Select File|Page Preview. From that view (the print preview view), click the PDF button and get this file. Looks OK. I will skip adding the next attachment (same output), so it is pointless. In that case I did a File | Export as PDF, which this bug report says should work correctly, it does. I also did File | Print and printed via the Adobe PDF driver. Same result again. As far as Paul and I can tell, this works correctly on a Windows 7 system in OOo, whether with Calc or Writer. We just can't see the problem on this platform.
We did the same steps with the original document (print from Page Break preview, Page Preview, and just from printing via Adobe PDF) and got the same printout in each case. Again, this is a Windows 7 system and OOo 3.4.0.

Hi everybody. Even with your file (widedocument.odt) I get same result (see attachments). Now I think all this can be related to my system only (iMac late 2006, Mac OS X 10.6.8), or my printer (canon MX340) and its driver, or both. Anyway thanks to you for your precious support. Luciano Fregni
I reproduced it on AOO 3.4.1 Mac OSX 10.6.8 Brother DCP-7040 (printer) Steps to reproduce: 1. Open any attached document (e.g. Widedocument.odt) 2. File -> Print -> PDF -> Save as PDF... 3. Open just created PDF file Actual result: Page orientation is portrait Expected result: Page orientation is landscape
