Description Michael Williams 2012-10-22 17:34:13 UTC
When I try using the Database application to either create a new file or open a file that I already created, I get the error message " Openoffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task. Please install a JRE and restart Openoffice.org." followed by "The connection to the data source "file name" could not be established. No Jave installation could be found. Please check your installation." I have Java 7, but when I try manually locate the file at C:\program files\java\jre7 the error message states "
The folder you selected does not contain a JRE. please select a different Folder."
I am getting this on two PCs with Windows XP and Windows 7. The file was created on the PC with Windows XP, but saved on an external hard drive. After getting a new PC with Windows, I copied the file to a CD and copied back to the Windows XP PC.

please note that the solution for this bug has been found: it is a bug in Java 7 that does not install a Windows redistribuable.
Simply follow the advice in http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

"Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package. [...]"
