Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 121378
persistent Save crash event DURING save
Last modified: 2013-07-02 14:53:50 UTC
Persistent crash event happing DURING "save" word document as dotdoc, one third of the way into the Save proces (as indicated by green barline). Has just started happening this morning after at least 5 attempts, working on 8th iteration/ updated document (i.e. previously saved 8 other draft versions). SO not helpful that I have an academic essay deadline in 3 days. WTF? How do I update my work? Appears to be alleviated saving as .odt for time being. Lord give me strength. Am sorry I don't have the programming knowledge or capacity to take some opensource leadership on this right now....
I can't reproduce the bug. The steps I've followed are as: - save document as dotdoc , Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) - Pop Up Box: Do you want to save the actual format? - Keep the actual format The document is then saved as .doc Are you still facing the problem with this bug?If so, can you please give me some more information regarding the bug. Otherwise, you can get help at http://forum.openoffice.org. Or you can read about random crash problems with AOO 3.4.1 and the profile renaming fix decribed in the 3.4.1 release notes.
Created attachment 80230 [details] an .odt file that makes Writer hang when saving to Word97 the problem seems to by the first hyperlink "http://... " File was originally created using MS Word, then updated under 00 Writer, the hyperlink was inserted using OO Writer, while saving in .doc format. At some point it would not save the file any longer as .doc, but would save to .odt and export to .pdf.
Yes, I can confirm the defect. 1. Open up the attached file: an .odt file that makes Writer hang when saving to Word97 3.Save the file as Word 97 format. 4.Pop Up Box: Do you want to save the actual format? 5.Keep the actual format 6. The program crashes. This on my Windows Vista, AOO 3.4.1, HP Though, remember; this happens on the above attached file.
Tried in AOO 3.4.1 on Windows 7 (32-bit) For me it hangs on export to DOC rather than crash.
As a latent additional thought, it could also be associated with the EndNote (academic Bibliographic program, version X3 installed), that is coupled/ added on to open to support (with) my OpenOffice/ Writer academic writing.
I can not reproduce a crash or hang with the bug doc. Only two things: - The text color of the saved .odt document is bluish, not black. - I get several assertions. All like this: Error: Assertion failed ================== FILE : c:/source/trunk/git/main/sw/source/filter/ww8/wrtw8num.cxx at line 142 ERROR : "<GetWordFirstLineOffset> - misusage: position-and-space-mode does not equal LABEL_WIDTH_AND_POSITION"
ALG: Tried on win7 with bugdoc from comment 2, all went well (not even an assertion).
I have reproduce the hanging WW8 (Microsoft Word binary file format) export with AOO 3.4.1 on my Windows 7. With recent snapshot for AOO 4.0 the WW8 export works fine. It looks like that this issue has been fixed by the one of the made improvement to the Microsoft Office document filters. --> no release blocker
