Description Barbie Thompson 2013-03-12 17:07:33 UTC
I cannot use ANY of my old text documents nor create new ones because as soon as I open a text doc it CRASHES immediately. This never happened on the 3.0 version for Vista but is now happening with the 3.4.1 Windows 8 version.

I am basically incapacitated to create any text doc now because they always crash, this being critical for me because I am a writer, please advise me how to correct. Thank-you.

Regards,
Barbie Thompson

Can you please attach an example?

No, sadly, I cannot, because the moment the Open Office text document opens up, it crashes, the page just collapses. There is no error code or anything so there is nothing I can attach...:(

I meant your existing old text documents causing the crash.

No, you see, ALL my text docs WORK on my laptop, which has the Open Office 3 and is Vista run. On my Windows 8 tablet which has Open Office 3.4.1, the EXACT SAME docs only open, then crash. They work fine on 3 and Vista, crash on 3.4.1 and Windows 8.

Thank you for this clarification.
I don't have access to Windows 8, so can't personally attest OpenOffice performance.
To my understanding Windows 8 is not fully supported yet.

Oh, I see...well, that makes some sense then. Does anyone know when it will be compatible for 8?

Or is there a way I can still download the OLD Open Office 3.0? I think it might work better than this newer version? If you do know of a link for the older version, I'd be most grateful?

Thanks for the link...:)

Do you know, is there a timeline set for Open Office TO be compatible with 8?

<http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs_aoo40.html> tells that 4.0 has been tested successfully with WIN 8

@Barbie Thompson:
Please consider <http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/HowToFileIssue#Principles>. That AOO crashes on your PC is your problem, not AOO's. It becomes AOO's problem as soon as you contribute an instruction how to reproduce your problem. That's completely impossible without a sample document (one of your documents) as an attachment here in the Bug report. Please feel free to reopen this issue if you find out that the problem still exists in the latest public release of AOO and if you can provide requested additional information. We need a test kit.
