Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 121954
binfilter won't load versions of old StarOffice files
Last modified: 2013-04-02 10:49:06 UTC
When loading an old sdc file created by StarOffice 5.2 containing versions these won't show up, i.e. loaded file does not contain any versions and thus can not access any of these. StarOffice 7 and OpenOffice 1.1.5 could load the file including the versions.
Can you attach a file? As far as I can tell, and if nothing changed recently, binfilter is going to be removed in the next version of OpenOffice, 4.0. Just to be sure, I'll ask on the dev list, and let you know.
Created attachment 80478 [details] Spreadsheet with versions originating from StarOffice 5 Versions accessible in OpenOffice 1.1.5 and StarOffice 7. Versions not accessible in OpenOffice 2.1 / 2.4 / 3.4.1 and StarOffice 8

Test case was just uploaded. With diminishing support for these old versions it gets all the more pressing to convert to newer formats.
Confirmed. The Open dialog in 1.1.5 shows the current version, plus three older ones, in 3.4.1 the "Version" list box is empty.

I guess you already tried all older versions from http://archive.services.openoffice.org/pub/openoffice-archive/stable/ Unfortunately, I don't see a solution if any of these versions is able to convert the old file to ODF and preserve the document versions. The binfilter module has already been removed from OOo derivative projects, and here at the ASF everybody is working towards 4.0.0
I haven't tried all of these versions, thanks for the link. Unfortunately indeed it seems dim as the white paper (http://www.openoffice.org/specs/appwide/fileIO/Behavior_of_Saving_Documents_Containing_Versions.odt) indicates it hasn't been considered to save versions and convert file type.
