Description Bomin 2013-04-19 00:09:08 UTC
if you save a protected document to your computer and open it using Open Office (standard Oracle software license), the protection is no longer in place, leaving a fully editable document.

Additionally, once the document has been opened in Open Office, if you save it as a .doc, it becomes a fully editable Microsoft Word document.

Is this a known issue? This is causing document control issues. Please look into this issue.

Thanks
Bomin

Word 2010: created doc file and applied protection via Review - Protect - Restrict Editing - 2. Editing restrictions - Allow only this type of editing in the document: No changes (Read only)

Writer Rev. 1467605: file opens as read only.

test protected document

Hi,
I've attached a word doc with "filling in forms" protection. I then opened this file in Open Office and saved it as an .odt file. I could then edit the document without restriction. This edited document can be saved as a word doc again and the word doc is also free from protection against editing.

FYI, the password for the doc attached is "test".

Thanks Edwin, looks like comment 4 confirms that this issue is a bug. Can we fix it? Would like to understand what is the next step. Thanks!

Assigned target milestone 4.0.1.
Hopefully this bug will be addressed in the near release.

Edwin, thank you so much for your prompt responses. One more thing - if you could provide an ETA of the next release would be greatly helpful. Need not be an exact one but something that is a rough estmate would help too. I would like to make sure the version update is reflected in our MyDesktop so we can have open office on our users laptops are updated as soon as the new version is out. Thanks again. Regards, Bomin

I was wrong...
Sorry.

Edwin,
Does this mean this won't be resolved as part of 4.0.1.? If so, can you provide a revised ETR? We did some testing on 4.0.1 and it does not appear that this issue is resolved.

Issue persists with
AOO410m1(Build:9750) - Rev. 1562493
Rev.1562493
Win 7

I'm just a simple user checking bugs, not fixing them myself.
ETR unknown, sorry.
