Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 122663
Mixed use of mnemonics in Tamil
Last modified: 2013-07-02 05:57:39 UTC
Created attachment 80977 [details] Macro Organizer dialog in Tamil The Macro Organizer dialogue in Tamil is a good example of mnemonics incongruently used in the Tamil translation: a) "~" placed before a Tamil character in the Help button: ~உதவி b) "~" placed before a Latin upper case character, embraced in parenthesis: ஒருங்கிணைப்பி (~O)... c) "~" placed before a Latin lower case character, embraced in parenthesis: இதிலிருந்து மேக்ரோ (~f) (a) is the way mnemonics are set in Western languages (b) is the way they are set in Japanese and Chinese (c) looks like a bug It must be decided whether to use (a) or (b). If (b) is chosen, then all uses of (a) have to be removed, and automatic mnemonic generation has to be turned off for Tamil in /org.openoffice.Office.Common/View/Localisation/AutoMnemonic (not that the algorithm in VCL is assigning mnemonics in the Western-way (a)). Some examples, with its location in Pootle: macrodlg.src#RID_MACROCHOOSER.RID_TXT_MACROSIN.fixedtext.text en-US: Existing macros ~in: ja: マクロのある場所(~I) zh-CN: 现有的宏(~I): ta: இருக்கும் மேக்ரோக்கள் (~i): macrodlg.src#RID_MACROCHOOSER.RID_TXT_MACROFROM.fixedtext.text en-US: Macro ~from ja: マクロの記録先(~F) zh-CN: 宏的来源(~F) ta: இதிலிருந்து மேக்ரோ (~f) macrodlg.src#RID_MACROCHOOSER.RID_PB_ORG.pushbutton.text en-US: ~Organizer... ja: 管理(~O)... zh-CN: 管理(~O)... ta: ஒருங்கிணைப்பி (~O)... btntext.src#SV_BUTTONTEXT_HELP.string.text en-US: ~Help ja: ヘルプ(~H) zh-CN: 帮助(~H) ta: ~உதவி
Note that this is also reproducible with the 3.3.0 Tamil language pack that can be found at http://archive.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/localized/ta/3.3.0/
