Description dma 2013-07-23 00:13:25 UTC
I have been getting inconsistent results using Jpeg export. I have a relatively simple graphic: it has one photo and some text on a white background. I'm trying to export it as a Jpeg at fairly high resolution so the final resolution is similar to that of the embedded photo. When I do this I get one of three results: 1) It works properly. 2) It complains that there is a "graphics filter" missing and will not proceed. If I reduce the resolution it will then work. 3) I get a file with 333 bytes. No clue as to what is in it. I cannot predict which of these two results I'll get! I've tried it on two different computers.

I have been able to duplicate both problems. I can't attach the file because it is too big so I've included a link, below.

I first did my standard procedure -- drag a Jpeg file onto the Draw page and position it. Then export the entire image as a Jpeg. The zip file you can get to with the link below has the odg file and the screen shot of the parameters I used in the Jpeg dialog box. Note that the warning to "joe" is sometimes present when I have problems and sometimes not. For the Jpeg export I got a "Graphic Filter Not Found" error. I then tried to export to PNG instead of Jpeg with the same result. Finally, following a suggestion from the Forum, I converted the original photo from Jpeg to PNG and went through the same export procedure. This time I got a 333 byte file as a result. That file is in the linked zip file also.

As I mentioned, I cannot predict when (or which) I will have a problem as sometimes it works as it should.

I reduce the report to problem 2

NOT Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 3.4.1 – German UI / German locale [AOO341m1(Build:9593) - Rev.1372282]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile, using settings as per reporter's screenshot, but quality maximum (100)

1. From Start center open "JpegTest.odg"
2. (AOO) Menu File -> Export -> JPG -> New Name ->  [Export] -> Max Quality ->
   [ok]
   > Picture will be created
3. Close document
4. Redo from '1' 4 Times

I did not see the problem.
Because I am not sure whether I understand the instructions I additional did 5 tests with selected picture in Draw sheet and checked "Selection" in Export dialog, not closing the document between the exports, also no problem at all

Please contribute a clear and simple step by step instruction how to reproduce the problem using your test kit.

Do you also see the problem with AOO 4.0.0-dev?

Please feel to submit a second report concerning the 333 bytes problem.

Thank you for following up on this problem. Unfortunately, as I mentioned the problem has been intermittent for me so I cannot say specifically how to reproduce it. It happened often enough so that I found an alternate way to create the images I need (using Gimp) which has been working (but not as easily as it would be if OO-Draw were not causing me problems!). I have not tried the development version so I do not know if the problem would persist there. When the next version becomes a stable release I will give it a try again.
