Description V Stuart Foote 2013-07-23 15:16:02 UTC
Support for Windows 7 introduced "Jump List" display of recent documents from the Windows Start menu, or the Task bar, needs to be implemented. Documents are listed correctly in the OpenOffice recent documents list, as well as in the Windows system shell Start menu Recent Items list--so the SHAddToRecentDocs call in /main/vcl/win/source/app/salinst.cxx is intact. Not the issue.

When implemented and functioning in Windows 7 (and similar in Windows 8) an OpenOffice component pinned to the Start menu or to the Task bar does not implement Windows Jump list features. On the Start menu -- as a "right pointing" triangle that when pointed to opens a "Recent" (aka a Jump list). On the Task bar -- a context menu pop-up showing the "Recent" items for the program.

Build and OS details

Win 7 sp1, 64bit Ultimate

AOO400m3(Build:9702) - Rev. 1503704
2013-07-16 14:54:56 (Di, 16 Jul 2013)

The per user C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items is being populated and system shell Start Menu recent items including recent AOO edited documents.

And in Windows Registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced value for Start_JumpListItems is set to a (10), and Start_ShowRecentDocs is set 1 (On).

So no issue with configuration for Windows shell, just with integration of AOO with Windows shell and WPF Jump lists.

Finaly, performed as a custom setup on a system with AOO removed from registry and user profile(s).

Optional components:
Online Update not selected,
Windows Explorer Extension selected,
Quickstarter not selected.

I was able to replicate the bug on Windows 8 64-bit using OO build 4.0.1. First I created two documents using Writer and saved them. Then I simply pinned the program to the taskbar, closed the application, and right-clicked on it. When you do this, you are only given two options. To open OO or to unpin it from the taskbar. I should have seen the option to directly open those two documents as I would be able to using Microsoft Word. This bug is important to customers because it makes the Writer program easier to use. It is not a huge hassle for a customer of this program, but fixing it will make the customer happier with the product.
