Description Marco Poutré 2013-08-01 17:27:37 UTC
In PowerPoint, when you have a text placeholder and you click on the words in it, the rectangle outline AND the little squares you can use to resize it become visible.

In Impress, the first time you click on the words, the rectangle outline shows up but not the squares. If you click a 2nd time on the rectangle outline, the red squares will show up but those are the ones used to rotate the rectangle (This is not something I personally use very often). You have to click another time on the rectangle outline and then, the blue squares you can use to resize will show up.

Of course, you can try clicking right away on the rectangle and depending on your mouse skillz, you'll hit the target and have access to the squares. But I don't think there is a good reason not to show the squares as soon as someone clicks on the words.

Confirmed on Rev. 1503704 Win 7.
Text box
1st click -> reveal border
2nd click -> red static elements on border
3rd click -> blue dynamic elements on border = resize possible.

Open the toolbar "Options" or use the corresponding settings in Tools > Options. You will see three buttons with something with ABC in the icon. These provide very fine grained setting, what shall happen on click on text, click on object outset text, and on double-click. Please try this options. The settings are persistent.

I think, there is no need for any further setting, especially this issue is no bug.

Thank you.

It took me time to realize View - Toolbars - Options.
It took me more time to realize "Select Text Area Only" and "Double-click to edit Text" need to be disabled.

And after all this mental effort, we're down to two clicks to resize. Still not as good as PowerPoint.

Just like bug 122899, feature that can not be found = feature that doesn't exist.
