Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12305
large sxw file fails to load with Online Layout on
Last modified: 2013-10-21 13:38:08 UTC
A large document (a hundred pages) created in OpenOffice causes OpenOffice to stop responding if Online Layout is switched on. This problem started to appear as the file grew. No problem for small files (10-30 pages). My computer is fairly slow (Pentium 490MHz), so I could watch the file loading. - The first page of my document appears... - The scrollbar on the right slowly shrinks - I can still move the text cursor if I want... - ... and after a few more seconds of scrollbar shrinking... - The scrollbar is now very tiny. OpenOffice stops responding. Impossible to move the text cursor. Mouse cursor has the 'I' shape wherever I move. OpenOffice does not respond to any action, does not redraw the screen. OpenOffice consumes 98% CPU, never recovers. It can only be killed with "kill -9 PID". My document has very simple layout. The 'sxw' file is less than 90kB. Would you like me to send it to you? I'd be happy to do that. Fortunately I discovered that if I switch off Online Layout IMMEDIATELY, i.e. while the scrollbar is still shrinking, OpenOffice is OK then. Until this is resolved, I will have to work without Online Layout.
Please attach the document.
Received file per e-mail. Works for me on Windows 2000 with 1.1beta and 1.1beta2 Duplicated on Windows 2000 with 1.0.1 german Will try on linux to be sure.
Works for me with OOo1.1beta2 on linux (debian woody, kde 3.1.1) Note: Online layout mode is painfully slow because it takes OOo a long time to recalculate the page count for this document. Unfortunately this process is retriggered when changing to the X-desktop where OOo is shown. When OOo is ready at last, there are 5 pages in online layout mode while the document has over 200 pages in normal mode. closing
