Description Cor 2013-09-16 17:30:04 UTC
Basic functionality is missing from the print dialog.

A /possibly/ similar functionality exists in a completely different dialog (Print Settings) named "left/right". This clearly does /not/ apply to /most/ documents. Confusing, at best.

This setting needs to be added/moved to the main print dialog, along with print selected pages, print all pages, etc., the usual options that exist in every major print dialog on my system except Open Office.

The idea that i will need to enter Print Settings to change (what may or may not be!) the setting for every single document I print, before I print it, is ridiculous.

The selection of left/right is on tab "Page Layout" in the general "Print.."-dialog. The tab "General" of that dialog contains only those settings, which are most used to make the dialog not too high.

Excellent information, thank you. All software developers agree with the idea. Me too.

But what about the bug I reported???

As you point out, the print dialog is a tabbed interface. So why do I need to go into a /separate/ dialog to change a PRINT setting I need to adjust with almost every print job?

And, is odd/even and left/right even the same thing?

And, can valid bug reports really be dismissed this easily?

Also, there is no such option on the Page Layout Tab. I WISH!

I need to go to File >> Printer Settings >> Options.

And when I get there, I can't even see odd/even printing, only left/right, which, after such a long and arduous journey, does not apply to my document!

Your bug report is missing:
Which operating system do you use?
Which module (Writer, Calc, Draw, ...) do you use?

You should discuss your problem at the forum and add a screenshot of your dialog File > Print..., of each tab page of that dialog.

You need not use File > Printer Settings... at all.

I /began/ on the forum:

<http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9366&p=285447#p285447>

And there you can see screencaps of two completely different dialogs! Posted today. I could add mine, if you like.

When you say, "You need not use File > Printer Settings... at all.", do you mean, "You SHOULD need not use File > Printer Settings... at all."?

If so, then I agree wholeheartedly! But the fact remains, this is precisely what I must do, every single time I print.

Note: I put "General", because it applies to more than just Writer, or whatever module. I use a few of them.

And for the record, I am currently using Win7 x64. But as you can see from the forum post, the bug is all across the platforms.

IMHO move "Page sides" from Page Layout tab to General tab under Range and copies.
Rename to odd/even.
