Description bobplates 2013-11-07 22:16:59 UTC
Recently installed osx 10.9. OO crashed when attempting to save files. Also could not open files using open command in file menu. Upgraded to 4.0.1 and same problem.

Can open and save files using keyboard combination commands. Once you use the file menu you can no longer save or open files.

NOT reproducible with "AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for all predecessor versions.

GENERAL for now because due to report also for .odt

@bobplates:
Thank you for your feedback – unfortunately important information we will
need to reproduce your problem is missing.
Please add all information requested in following:
a) Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is
b) If the problem is not reproducible with a blank new document
please attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or refer to
an existing sample document in an other Bug with a link; to attach
a file to this bug report, just click on "Add an attachment" right on
  this page.
c) at what moment EXACTLY does the crash appear? Push mouse button? Release
mose button? At what menu item?
d) Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show
f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Distribution, Language)
f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a
public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting)
f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems
f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document
f8) Whether your problem persists when you renamed your user profile
(Quit Quickstart before!) before you launch AOO (please see
     <http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues>)
f9) with what older AOO versions you observed the problem

a) Write a meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is

OO 4.0.1 becomes unresponsive after attempting to Open of the Save As from menu. Those are the cases I have attempted. When selecting Open or Save As from menu, the finder window opens and when I attempt to select a folder it closes. After that the menu becomes unresponsive... i.e. if you select Open nothing happens. You alos can no longer close open documents by clicking the close button on the document. I attempted this ODT, ODS and CVS extension documents.

Note that I replaced my USER folder as described in the attached URL and that did not change the behavior.

b) If the problem is not reproducible with a blank new document
please attach a sample document (not only screenshot) or refer to
an existing sample document in an other Bug with a link; to attach
a file to this bug report, just click on "Add an attachment" right on
  this page.

I attached the Apple generated error report. When I open up OO and open a blank document, it works fine. Also if I open an old document directly from the finder(OO not open) it works fine.

c) at what moment EXACTLY does the crash appear? Push mouse button? Release
mose button? At what menu item?

see response A. Specifically, move the cursor in the document finder to another folder, click on it and the finder window disappears and the application is unresponsive.

d) Attach screenshots with comments if you believe that that might explain the
problem better than a text comment. Best way is to insert your screenshots
into a DRAW document and to add comments that explain what you want to show

can not take screen shots of the activity described.

f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Distribution, Language)

as stated before, Apple OSx 10.9. Exact system details in the crash report.

f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a
public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting)

see above

f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems

i started with a fresh USER folder with the only customization being my name

f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document

I have launched it from the dock, the application folder and from a specific file in the finder

f8) Whether your problem persists when you renamed your user profile
(Quit Quickstart before!) before you launch AOO (please see

Yes

f9) with what older AOO versions you observed the problem

I was running 3.4(not sure of the exact version... probably the latest update) before I upgraded my system from Mountain Lion to Mavericks. When I observed the behavior, I upgraded to 4.0.1. Same problem.

I hope this is helpful. And thank you in advance for your help. OO is very important in my daily workflow.

Many people including me are able to open a File on Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.9. For me this is not a general problem, and so it's not a bug. Pleas go to the User forum for support.
