Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12373
incorrect sversion.ini for any user trying to use SOffice
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:26:35 UTC
I install SOffice 1.02 as administrator. Everything was OK. But when any user tried to use soffice, error message appear about incorect sversion.ini. After it SOffice Installer started. If user repair SOffice, than he can use it. If I manually copy sversion.ini to \documents and settings\%username%\application data then soffice works without problem. But it's not funny to do it for every user. Problem appear on Win 2000 Czech and Win 2000 English OS
OOo 1.0.x isn't supposed to work like this. If you have a multiuser environment you better should make a -net installation and a workstation installation for every local user. Please have a look at the installation guide.

I think that this is issue. The network/workstation installation described in installation manual works, but it's not usable, especially for non-experienced windows users. If you have computer with cca 10 users, you have to run setup for each other. If this users are non-experienced (like secretary), you must assist with every installation. There is no way to prepare setup for users, because you cannot log with user account. So I think that it will be better to change network/workstation installation. Network installation can create working StarOffice program. Then if any user run this program, only "new user" window appear and ask for information about him (like in first started StarOffice program for single user). All changes to registry and .ini files are made automatically. User cannot modify installation, only parts selected by administrator in network installation is used.
If something isn't working as expected it's not a bug. It has been a decision to behave like this and so it does. We have a lot of of feature wishes for changing the installation behaviour and we will do so for upcomming versions. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 11685 ***
