Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 124022
OpenOffice is unacceptably slow in opening the attached file (elections.xlsx)
Last modified: 2015-03-17 13:36:48 UTC
Created attachment 82273 [details] Sample file: elections.xlsx The attached XLSX file takes extremely long (25 minutes) to open. Once opened, it can be saved in a few seconds in ODS format, and the ODS file can be opened in a few seconds too. Regression with respect to 3.3.0, that opens the same file reasonably fast.
4 minutes 47 seconds to open. IMHO we should undo the 1M rows change - useless for 99.99% of users. I prefer a fast 65K rows spreadsheet over a sluggish 1M rows spreadsheet.
To be honest: I think Comment 2 is a crazy idea. Spreadsheets are not only used by housewives for creating grocery store shopping lists. For statistics, data logging analysis and similar 1 million rows is not very much ... No week where I don't need more than 65000 rows Already reproducible with server installation of "AOO 3.4.0 – German UI / German locale [AOO340m1(Build:9590) - Rev.1327774]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile: at 30% progress bar opening process seems to stop.
I would never use any spreadsheet program for processing such amount of data. Statistics? SPSS, Minitab... Data analysis? Matlab, Maple... Why punish the housewives?
