Description Oukcha 2014-02-21 09:15:41 UTC
Hi developpers,

Step to reproduce :
-1: create a new Calc document
-2: select one, or more sheet, without Sheet1
-3: menu Tools > Protect document > Sheet
-4: Input password and confirm

To destroy password :
-5: select all sheets
-6: menu Tools > Protect document > Sheet
-7: validate without password
-8: menu Tools > Protect document > Sheet > remove protect in all sheets without password.

If all sheets are selected when you use menu Tools > Protect document > Sheet, just insert a new sheet in first position in spreadshead, and do step 5 to 8 to destroy password.
For better protection, you must use sheet and document password, break the sheet protect is within reach of a child.

Regards

i can confirm this behaviour with aoo401/oo32.
Comment 2 Rainer Bielefeld 2014-02-21 11:11:55 UTC
Reproducible with "AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for all predecessor versions.

Was OK with OOo 3.3.0, so regression. I will do some more research.
Comment 3 Rainer Bielefeld 2014-02-21 11:22:28 UTC
Seems I made a mistake, is already a problem with OOo 3.3.0

Additional Info:
----------------
(a) Situation with existing documents is a little worrying, so I tested
strictly to reporter's steps with blank new documents:
(a1) Already reproducible with sever installation of "OOo 3.2.1 English UI
     / German locale [OOO320m18 (Build 9502)]" on WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) DE
(a2) Was still ok with server installation of "Ooo 3.1.1 German WIN7
     Home Premium (64bit) DE [OOO310m19 (Build 9420)]"
Was still ok with server installation of "OOo 2.0.2 [680m5 (Build 9011)]"
German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit): In reporter's step 7 Message "Wrong

(b1) Might be related to document source code. With 4.0.1 and later
reporter's trick will not work with a document protected from
OOo 2.0.2, I get message "Wrong Password"
(b2) Might also be related AOO UI. Sample document protected
with 4.1.0 due to reporter's steps 1 ... 4 can not be unprotected
with steps 5 ... 7 with OOo 2.0.2, trick only will work with later versions

Test Kit

With attached test kit you can do your own investigations, especially for Comment 4 b1 / b2.

Sample202.ods has been created with OOo 2.0.2, Sample410.ods has been created from AOO 4.1.0-dev
Comment 6 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann 2014-02-21 12:37:03 UTC
adjusting version field due to comment #4
Comment 7 Oukcha 2014-02-22 08:19:34 UTC
Protect sheet work fine with OOo 2.4.2 :

-5: select all sheets
-6: menu Tools > Protect document > Sheet
-7: validate without password
-> there is message "wrong password" for each protected sheet

Thanks

There is a warning in the Help , page Protecting Cells from Changes
You find this page by searching in Help : protecting;cells and sheets

These protection features are just switches to prevent accidental action. The features are not intended to provide any secure protection. For example, by exporting a sheet to another file format, a user may be able to surpass the protection features. There is only one secure protection: the password that you can apply when saving an OpenDocument file. A file that has been saved with a password can be opened only with the same password.
