Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 124955
CRASH when edit .odt from Version 3.4.1 (or lower?)
Last modified: 2014-05-22 09:53:38 UTC
Created attachment 83444 [details] contains the errorous paragrah which causes Office to crash when deleting an empty space It was not possible to open a writer file with Version 4.1.0 (german) created with Version 3.4.1 (also german) or earlier (not sure which I had before updating). Fortunatly Microsoft Word accepted it (the program had also found some errors before opening it). By copying different paragraphes from Word into Open Office I found the part that causes Office to crash. The attached file is the errourous paragraph copied via Word. You can reproduce the crash by deleting a certain empty space (see explanation in attachment) which was inserted in Word before. Without this empty space Open Office can not open the file. The phonetic sign in the paragraph seems to behave strange after editing and also does not seem to be in the extented symbols list (see examples after editing in attachment) By deleting the errourous part in Word (only a few letters) and saving in odt again I could restore 99,9% of the document. It would be great if Open Office implies a function that allows to open the document with such bugs. Else I am fully content with Open Office and had no major problems since and I am using it. You do a great job! Michael
For me none of the problems is Reproducible with server installation of "AOO 4.1.0-dev – English UI / German locale - [AOO410m14(Build:9760) - Rev. 1583418_2014-04-02]" on German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", own separate user profile. Let's check the crash problem for first. @michael.karlinger What exactly is the problem here? You tell something about "can not open", but then you discuss editing problems, what means you can open the document? And what is an empty space? and what means "delete", <Backspace>, <Del>, something else? Please help with additional information to make your problem reproducible. a) Write a short but meaningful Summary describing exactly what the problem is c) Contribute a document related step by step instruction containing every key press and every mouse click how to reproduce your problem f4) concerning your Operating System (Version, Language) f5) concerning your AOO version (with Build/revision ID if it's not a public release) and localization (UI language, Locale setting) f6) AOO settings that might be related to your problems (video hardware acceleration, ...) f7) how you launch AOO and how you opened the sample document Please do not cite these hints in your reply, but cite the items like: f7): Desktop-icon for soffice.exe / AOO File menu -> Open
Created attachment 83446 [details] This file I could not open with OO
Created attachment 83447 [details] This is a motivied file trying to locate the problem by changing characters.
It did not save my Comments!
Hallo Rainer! I now added the Open Office file that was not possible to open. Sorry for the confusion about editing. I noticed editing problems when trying to circle in the problem with help of Windows Word but the real problem of cause is the no start. And it´s important to say that for me the problem is solved (by using Windows and deleting the errourous paragraph). But I could not do it with Open Office alone. That´s the point. By "empty space" I mean "character space" or "separating space" between two letters of signs. I was searching for faults in the document copying paragraphs from Word to Office. When I insert the "character space" before "engl" it can be copied to Office. But removing this "character space" office crashes. Of cause this is just a hint were the problem could be. a):Open Office writer document that was created with Open Office 3.4.1 can not be started with Version 4.1.0 This error can be reproduced when clicking on the recently posted file c):see third attached file f4): Win 7, German f5): File made with Version 3.4.1. My current Version is 4.1.0 Both Versions german. Local settings are not known f6): none that I can think of. As plugins I have english and german dictionarys f7): <doubleclick> on file in data folder. (Also other methods don´t work: open Open Office in programm menu first and then open the file, right click on file and select "open with" Office) Let me know if more questions appear or somethings still unclear cheers Michael
