Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 125119
Shift+Delete hangs application
Last modified: 2015-06-17 09:33:19 UTC
When you are editing a cell and you wish to cut and paste text or data using Shift+Delete (or the Ctrl+X keys), the application hangs for several seconds. The edit should be instantaneous, as it is in every other application.
Please specify your operative system.
Windows 7 64 bit. i7 chipset.
Just to clarify, it is the CUTTING that hangs the application, not the pasting.
Can anybody confirm this bug please?
The bug still exists in 4.1.1
After testing on different PCs, I've isolated the cause of this behavior. It's caused by the Windows gadget "Clipboard Manager" available at http://clipa.vu/downloads.htm#gadget When I disabled this gadget, the problem disappears.

This problem has reappeared, even without the software I thought was causing it. It also causes a CPU spike. Searching the web, I find numerous people reporting this bug since 2006/7, so clearly is it widespread, although apparently not universal. Examples https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3679 https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20419 https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=53953 It seems to have something to do with the way OO handles the clipboard, and if any other process that accesses or monitors the clipboard is running concurrently. Once it starts happening, it happens even in the smallest spreadsheet (1 row, 1 cell). It is so irritating that I am now looking for an OO alternative.
