Screen shot of date format missorts

Running and editing a report from a Excel driven medical software system called Bright Tree.
When saving and importing to AOO everything but the date format transfers smoothly.
The date format however is what I need the most for proper sorting of formatting.

When AOO sorts the dates it does not appear in correct date order but rather in numerical order;
{ie;
should be 8/1/14, 8/2/14, 8/3/14, etc
instead   8/1/14, 8/10(-19)/14,2/14, 8/20(-29)/14, etc}

When I try to change it to the format I want, it does nothing at all. No matter what date format I ask it to change to it won't change.

This is a HUGE monthly report and I am tired of doing it via copy/paste.

Can you please attach such file itself? A screenshot is not enough for investigating.

Is the software able to save in a csv format?

I am testing on Linux AOO 4.1.1M2.

I put in a few dates in col A with date format mm/dd/yy. Then sorted and everything was OK. Can you check to see how Col A is defined for you currently?
Select the column then go to Format->Number->Date and make sure the correct date format is set. I hope this solves your problem.

But as Regina suggested, an attachment would help.

REPLY: No I am sorry there is detrimental client information on the original file and I am not at liberty to share that information.

I have not tried saving in csv format, but that is what I am pulling the original file from.

Everything does work great when I start a new spreadsheet, its only when I pull this report from the software system and that's when it misinterprets the code for the date changes.
