Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 125642
Mac/Windows incompatibility when rendering the square-root symbol
Last modified: 2017-05-20 09:46:37 UTC
Please see the files provided at http://www.cspu.be/~baudhuina/openofficeIssue_SquareRoot/ File SquareRootSymbol_Issue.odt just contains two small identical Math formulas, featuring a square root symbol. The first one was last updated on Windows, and the second one was last updated on a Mac. (this has been confirmed with Windows 7 and Vista, and several versions of MacOS). On Windows, the formula updated on the Mac does not render properly when editing the file, nor when printing or generating pdf files (lines are disconnected) while the other one is perfect. On Mac, the formula updated on Windows does not render properly when editing the file, nor when printing or generating pdf files (lines overlap))while the other one is perfect. See files SquareRootSymbol_Issue_GeneratedFromMac.pdf and SquareRootSymbol_Issue_GeneratedFromWindows.pdf to see the result on each platform. Opening and closing without any change the formula which does not render properly fixes the issue, but since formulas are not refreshed when printing, it is a very tedious job for large documents.... The provided formulas demonstrate the issue, which can become much more serious with more complex formulas. Thanks for your attention on this matter.
Created attachment 83967 [details] Macro to force update of Math objects in Writer That is likely a problem of missing update on loading, see issue 91779. Please try, whether the attached Basic macro corrects the display errors. The macro does nothing but update the Math objects. Nevertheless do not try it on the original document, but on a copy. If the macro makes your formulas look nice, then this issue is duplicate to issue 91779.
The macro indeed fixes the issue in the formulas, so I guess it is indeed a duplicate to issue 91779. Should I mark it as duplicate or let a developper rule on this?
Yes, set it to duplicate and close it then. As you are the reporter, it should be possible.
The issue is indeed a missing update on loading. Marked as duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of issue 91779 ***
