Highlighted line where enter is being pushed

After inserting a table (only tried a 4 x 7) and attempting to press enter on the line above to fit the table on the next page the Office will crash as soon as enter is pushed to move the cursor to the next page. Works fine when using CTRL + Enter but pushing enter multiple times results in a crash.

I have attempted to recreate this bug using Apache OpenOffice v4.1.1 [AOO411m6(Build:9775) - Rev. 1617669 2014-08-1]
on a Windows 7 Pro 64bit OS and using a Logitech K120 keyboard.

I am unable to replicated this issue. Using the attached image I proceeded with the following steps:
1. Opened OpenOffice
2. Create blank new text document
3. Clicked on Insert -> Table and selected the 4x7 dimesions described
4. Pressed enter once to move the table down one space so that the cursor is above the table
5. Continued to press enter with no crashes.
5a. Entered some text above the table and tried pressing enter with no crashes.
5b. Created new document entered dummy paragraphs and inserted same table, using the toolbar function, below the dummy paragraph. No crashes when pressing enter
5c. Created another new document and entered two dummy paragraphs and inserted the same table, using ctrl+F12 to insert a table, in between the two paragraphs. Pressing enter above the table does not crash the program.

I have attached images of the result of my tests. Are you using the most current version of OpenOffice? Is your keyboard functioning properly, does it give any issue in any other program?

I was not able to recreate this bug using Apache OpenOffice Writer v4.0.1 on a Windows 7.

I did repeat steps 5A and 5C, but was not able to reproduce the bug.

Additional Three Scenarios tested:
A. Opened OpenOffice Writer – created two tables on page one using Ctrl + F12 (both a 4x7) and entered text in all the cells in both tables.
B. I placed cursor at top of page and continued to hit Enter until both tables were on the next page - No crash.

A. Opened OpenOffice Writer - I created three tables on page one of various sizes (2x2, 3x3 and 5x5) using Insert->Table.
B. I placed cursor at the top of the page and hit enter to verify all tables moved to second page – No crash.

A. Opened OpenOffice Writer - I repeated the step above (B) with three new varying size tables (2x3, 3x2 6x6), but did this starting on pages two and three.
B. I placed cursor at the top of the page and hit Enter until all three tables were on the following page – No crash.

There appear to be other intermittent table-crash problems in 4.1.x. For example, 125528 and 124963
Comment 8 Jake 2016-04-09 16:25:24 UTC
Was able to recreate that issue on Windows 10

Intel atom CPUZ3735 1.33 ghz. 2 GB ram.

Actually it doesn't occur when you use ctrl + enter. But it does if you push the table by using just enter.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open Writer
2. Click enter
3. Click table
4. select insert
5. Click enter
6. Click row above entered table
7. Press enter button and don't let it go.
8. App crashes after a second

I was able to recreate this crash on a Windows 8.1 machine with Open Office version 4.1.2. I have attached a sample OOWriter file set up for the crash, an event log with system specs and screenshot of the test with steps.

Steps to Recreate:

1. Hit enter until you reach the second to last line of page 1.
2. Add a table with 2 rows (enough rows to expand onto page 2)
3. Place your cursor in the line above the table.
4. Hold Enter moving the table onto page 2 which causes OOWriter to crash.

I was unable to recreate this bug following the same steps on the following machines below. I did try additional steps like adding more tables and having these tables expand multiple pages but was unable to recreate.

Model: R17
Processor: Intel(R) Core 2 Duo CPU T9600 @ 2.80GHz

I wanted to add some additional information about this bug from follow up tests. The number of columns does not appear matter and the minimum amount of rows needed to recreate this crash is two rows. Two rows is enough to split the table up between two pages which appears to be the trigger for the crash. I tried a table with only 1 row and moving between pages did not trigger the crash.

OO 4.1.2 (Build:9782) - Rev. 1709696

I was not able to replicate this crash on windows 10, Apache OO 4.1.2. I followed the steps based on the most recent comment

Step 1: Open Apache Open Office Writer
Step 2: Select Text Document
Step 3: Hit Enter until the second to last line of page 1 (47 times)
Step 4: Insert >> table >>Settings: 2x2 w/ border
Step 5: Move cursor above table and hit enter once so that the table is on page 2

This did not re-create the crash. Also, in replace of step 4, I have attempted to create the table using either

Ctrl + F12 (2x2 table) or
At the top tool bar, I clicked on the table button and selected a 2x2 on the grid.
Then I repeated step 4 for each and still no crash.

Other ways that I tried to replicate the crash are the following:

A.

-Held down the enter button until the table (2x2) appeared on page 12

B.

-Right clicked the table >> click “table” >> change spacing “above” settings to 1.00 >> click ok

-Move cursor above the table and hit enter until the table including spacing is on the following page

C.

-Created two 2x5 on one page

-Moved cursor above the second table

-Hit Enter until the second table was on the second page

D.

-Created two 2x5 on one page
-Moved curser above the first table
-Hit Enter until BOTH tables were on the second page

E.

-Added text just above the table

-Moved cursor above the text

-Hit Enter until both text and tables were on the second page

I have also tried hitting enter in between the text and table

Unfortunately, I was not able to replicate the crash with the alternative steps above.

I was unable to recreate the bug using Apache OpenOffice 4.1.2 (AOO412m3(Build:9782) - Rev. 1709696) on Windows 7 Home Premium

The following steps were taken.
1. Launch OpenOffice Writer
2. Insert a table from the Insert dropdown (default settings)
3. Hold enter until the table is pushed onto the second page. No crash.
4. Continue holding enter until the table is pushed onto the tenth page. No crash.
5. Open a new text document.
6. Hold enter until the cursor is on the second from last line on the first page.
7. Insert a new table (default settings)
8. Press up and then enter to cause the table to spill over onto the second page. No crash.

The process was repeated for tables of size 4x7 and 100x100, without any crash.

Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel i7-4800MQ CPU @ 2.70GHZ
