Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 125906
Incorrect font handling (not all fonts/styles shown and wrong implementation), at least on MacOS with Helvetica Neue
Last modified: 2018-11-16 14:15:00 UTC
Created attachment 84249 [details] Result of AOO 4.0.1 and 4.1.1 and Pages 4.3 AOO 4.0.1 had 9 errors using "Helvetica Neue"-font on MacOS X 10.9.5 AOO 4.1.1 fixed most of them, but forgot to fix 2 of them. Tested only on MacOS X 10.9.5, German language The font set "Helvetica Neue" has 14 fonts/styles. AOO 4.0.1 knows only 12 of them, AOO knows 13. Refer to the attached PDF (and PNGs) to see the results of AOO 4.0.1, AOO 4.1.1 and Apple Pages 4.3 are shown. Font 5, Helvetica Neue Halbfett / Medium is not listed and therefore not useable. Font 7, Helvetica Neue Condesed Bold is selectable, but uses font 6, Fett / Bold and switches to font 6, Fett / Bold. Not as important: The names of some fonts should changed to the names stored in the font (location, german) as it was in 4.0.1 (but be aware, in 4.0.1 4 fonts was interchanged!). Font 1 UltraLight -> Extrafein Font 2 Thin -> Extraschmal Font 3 Light -> Fein Font 4 Standard -> Normal Font 5 should be named as: Halbfett Font 6 Fett -> Fett Font 7 Condensed Bold -> Schmal, Fett Font 8 Condensed Black -> Schmal, Sehr fett Font 9 UltraLight Italic -> Extrafein, Kursiv Font 10 Thin Italic -> Thin Italic (fault of the names in the font) Font 11 Light Kursiv -> Fein, Kursiv Font 12 Kursiv -> Kursiv Font 13 Medium Italic -> Medium Italic (fault of the names in the font) Font 14 Fett, Kursiv -> Fett, Kursiv

> "Helvetica Neue" is a commercial font and not provided by default with AOO. Helvetica Neue is included in MacOS X. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_typefaces_included_with_OS_X In 10.6 (Lion) and 10.7 (Snow Leopard) there are 11 typefaces. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202408 In 10.9 (Maverick), using for reporting this issue, there are 14 typefaces: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201375 In 10.10 (Yosemite) Helvetica Neue becomes to be the system font. It seems to be necessary, that a developer should have at least MacOS 10.9 (or maybe 10.8 has also 14 typefaces(?)). > Sounds like this old issue 89486 No, I don't think so. Maybe they have some common problems, but 89486 is talking about other problems. I think, that someone recognized the problems in 4.0.1 and fixed just a part of them (and worsen the font-naming), and forgot two problems to fix. Because 4.0.1 has 9 errors, 4.1.1 only 2 of them, as described above. ======= Note: how the attachments was build: ===== Example AOO 4.1.1.odt: written in AOO 4.1.1 Example AOO 4.0.1.odt: opened Example AOO 4.1.1.odt with AOO 4.0.1 and checked the font names in AOO 4.0.1 and changed the font names in the text as they are. (As a result you can see, that in AOO 4.0.1 the fonts 1+2 and 9+10 was interchanged.) Example Pages 4.3.pages: written in Pages 4.3 Export to PDF within each program version. Opened the PDFs, exported them to png (to be independent from fonts). Combined all PDFs to the first attachment.
(In reply to oooforum from comment #7) sorry, comment #8 should be a reply to comment #7.
Created attachment 86545 [details] Typeface in AOO Typeface Really LT Com was installed with font styles Medium, Medium Italic, Demi, and Demi Italic, however in AOO only Medium Italic and Demi are displayed.
Created attachment 86546 [details] Typeface in TextEdit In TextEdit you can see exemplarily that font style Medium is installed (likewise with Demi Italic).
I have this phenomenon with some more fonts, but I can’t see any rule this fault obeys. I will illustrate it by one example; note the enclosed attachments. In such case the buttons Bold and Italic don’t work well. Here neither of them has an effect.
What version of OpenOffice do you use?
The results are the same with AOO415m1 (Build: 9789) - Rev. 1817496 and AOO420m1 (Build: 9800) - Rev. 1827249 either.
