Calc document with the issue

Calc crashes, if the "if"-function contains an empty ("") on the "then" or "else"-position and you try to store this in Excel5 format....

See column A
It works in V3.4

Workaround:
Using a "blank" (" ") instead "" on the then and / or else - position

Confirmed with Windows systems (XP, Vista and 7)
Not reproduce with Linux Mint x64

But MS-Excel 5.0/95 is an obsolete format: support end of life since 2001.
Comment 2 katermerlin 2014-11-28 16:34:37 UTC
It's correct that Excel5 is out of support, but if the option is offered, it should work...
I know many people still using Excel5 for certain reasons.

Crash also with Excel95, no crash with Excel 97/2000/XP

Obviously issue with 4.x Versions, working under V3.4

Calc document with the issue

The formula should compare two cells.
If the cells are empty, nothing should be shown.
If the cells are different, also nothing should be shown.
If cells are equal to the cell above, an "x" should be schown.

Saves fine in Excel/95, Excel/5 or Excel/97 in Linux-32 bit.
Comment 6 neel 2014-12-01 18:58:08 UTC
Tested the stated IF condition in windows 8.1 but was unable to reproduce the CRASH.
