It sets the single image as a background all i want is the image in the blank space

It seems like every other time I try and insert a picture either by coping the picture from the clipboard or by opening it from a file it always seems to set it inside one of my text boxes. 

Like right now I am trying to insert this image into my presentation:

But all it keeps doing is making it the background or hatching it seems like of the big text box I have there already. It does this almost every time I add an image while I am using text boxes or shapes while in Writer. 

Usually Deleting the Text box works but lately it has just been placing it inside another (usually smaller) text box on the screen somewhere.
