when a 'UNION' or 'UNION ALL' query is executed within the BASE query design window using Open Office 4.1.3 in combination with a back end of HSQLDB 2.4.0. then no result set is displayed.
We get an empty window & title bar (no column headers).

I can confirm the issue noted by user chrisb.
My queries using UNION and UNION ALL that worked with earlier versions of HSQLDB display no results when using HSQLDB 2.4.0 and Open Office 4.1.3
Those queries work with HSQLDB 2.4.0 when using a front end other than Open Office.

For me, duplicate of issue 121837
This could be solve if inner HSQLDB is upgraded to 2.x
