screenshot of error message

I have tried several times with different files. I followed the instructions to check the bit size on IE and downloaded the appropriate JRE but still receiving a "write error" when I try to save a .ods file as a .xml file. Screenshot of error attached.

Last night I cleared my browser cache before going to bed. I have spent an hour this morning looking for that page. The page looked like this one ->http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html It appears that the one sentence about going to internet explorer->Settings->About to see what version of Java to install has been removed.

I read some comments in the Open Office forum where people did the same thing- checking IE for what java version to install. In any case I initially installed the 64-bit java version. Then read later that I need the 32-bit version for calc so I uninstalled the 64-bit and downloaded the 32-bit but I am still not able to save .ods files as .xml.

I also have already looked under Tools->Options->Java and the java program does appear and is selected. So what else could be causing the problem?

Can you please look if there are entries under "Tools - XML Filter Settings..." in your Menu?

However, if it is not empty there will only be an entry for "MS Excel 2003 XML"

I never even noticed that setting before! Checked it and there is a whole list of entries there including "MS Excel 2003 XML."

You should be able to save your Calc spreadsheet with "File - Save As..." by choosing the File Type "Microsoft Excel 2003 XML (.xml)" as MS Excel 2003 XML Format.
But I don't know what differences it has to MS Excel 2005 XML...

May I ask, why you need to save in that specific format?

I have tried several times. The first error messages were that I needed to install a JRE so I did but after installing java I was getting the error message I showed you. When I click on "save as" it appears to be saving. The box comes up asking me if I want to keep the current format etc. Then after about a minute I get the error message.

Just wanted to see if I could the .xml format but apparently no one knows how to fix this bug in the program.

Well, I have no problem with saving a Calc sheet as MS XML...

If you could provide a specific file where it happens we could look deeper into it.

Sorry, I only tested on Linux, after starting up a Windows VM I can confirm your problem.

Calc freezes up and shows the error message you attached.

Will look further into this...
