Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128090
Crashes upon Open
Last modified: 2019-10-12 17:18:38 UTC
Several weeks ago I downloaded 4.1.6 - I've been using it daily, spreadsheet, writer, presentations. Today I opened a spreadsheet from the cloud to enter my daily numbers and as I typed the first number a document recovery dialogue box appeared. It simply stated that "Due to an unexpected error, OpenOffice crashed. All the files you were working on will now be saved. The next time OpenOffice is launched, your files will be recovered automatically." I followed the recovery path and reopened my file. It crashed again. I rebooted my computer and tried a 3rd time. I got out my other laptop which is running 4.1.2 and it opened fine, I entered all of my data and closed it - no issue. So I'm fairly certain it's not the file being corrupted. On my original laptop I uninstalled Open Office and reinstalled 4.1.2 hoping that the earlier version would work. I opened a new document in writer and I was able to type 5 words before it too crashed. I've tried all types of documents, presentations, spreadsheets... they all crash. Since I had tried all of that, I ran scans on my computer to see if something else was infected or corrupted. The scan came up negative and there were no issues, bugs, or fixes recommended. I am running an Intel Pentium N3540 @2.16GHz 64-bit Toshiba with Windows 10. The other laptop I have is identical to my "problem child". There have been no error codes - only the dialogue box that pops up. Help!
This behavior is not typical and AOO works fine with Win10 all editions. First, try to reset the user profile: https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426 Report back the outcome here.
