Description de_sturtz 2019-08-05 17:55:06 UTC
Hi

I set up a page with black horizontal lines only, no words, pics or anything else. When I go to print, it shows the lined page but then says I can't print because the page is empty. It doesn't get much easier than printing lines on a page. Why so difficult, or at the time being not even possible, with OpenOffice?

Thanks

I've no idea what the use case is for this kind of data in a database.
Please can you tell us how you have set this up? Then we can try to reproduce and would be able to give more help. Thanks in advance.

Hi Marcus

I'm simply trying to make a blank sheet of paper with horizontal lines. And in my original post I meant to say "spreadsheet", not "database". Maybe that could help with the confusion. That said...

I create a new spreadsheet. I highlight the areas where I want to have lines. I click "borders" and make the lines. I go to "page view" and it shows my page with lines. I go to "print preview" and it shows a blank page.

Note: After nearly an hour at this, I finally see that OpenOffice considers lines that we put on a page to be nothing of importance. We have to click the "include output of empty pages" when we print our entirely not empty pages.

Thanks for your quick response Marcus.

Your bug report is being closed as NOT_AN_ISSUE due to a lack of information which is needed in order to accurately reproduce and confirm the problem. We encourage you to retest your bug against the latest release. If the issue is still present in the latest stable release, we need the following information:

a) Provide any test case(s) like a sample ODS document which will help us confirm the problem

b) Provide screenshots of the problem if you think it might help

c) Provide a PDF export to see what you have in output

Once all of this is done, please set the bug back to UNCONFIRMED and we will attempt to reproduce the issue.

No idea where the comment I sent yesterday is. Anyway, I figured it out. There's a box to click when printing that says "print empty pages" that has to be checked. Apparently OpenOffice doesn't see intentionally created lines/borders on a page as important to the document. Not a technical glitch, but a programming glitch.

Solved.
