Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128314
Start Center - odd behaviour of tooltips
Last modified: 2020-03-03 09:17:56 UTC
Created attachment 86872 [details] Tooltips in Start Center Initial steps to reproduce: 1. in AOO turn on extended tips Tools > Options > OpenOffice > General tick checkbox "Extented tips" 2. close AOO 3. open AOO Start Center appears on screen. First notice that tooltip (help text) for three icons at the bottom of white area is the same: "Click an icon to open a new document or a file dialog" (as in other language packs I've checked - German, French, Polish and Russian). Now hover your mouse over one of these icons. Wait until tooltip appears. Move mouse anywhere from icon (but not into tooltip) and wait. You will discover that tooltip won't vanish. Never. So this is what word "Extended" really stands for in "Extented tips" label? ;‑) If you left-click mouse (right-click works too) anywhere on screen - except for area alloted to 6 icons opening a new document) - above mentioned tooltip "Click an icon to [...]" is displayed. That allows you for playing a nice trick: start clicking around white rectangle and tooltip will somehow follow mouse pointer. A travelling tooltip. ;‑) (this happens only because active area for tooltip is not strictly limited to icon area.). While enjoying "travelling tip" I have also managed to move it around the screen without left-clicking mouse. Just move mouse quickly over tooltip ("passing through") and it shall change its position - a sentient traveling tooltip. ;‑) I regret that attaching a video file - even a small one (around 5 MB) - is not possible. That would save us all a great deal of time (me - describing the effects, you - trying to understand my coarse description. Not an easy task I suppose). In attached file "StartCenter" you will see screenshots for Start Center: tips ON and tips OFF). Please note that these effects do not occur if extended tips are turned off. And tooltip for each icon is then correct.
Hi, Also reproduced with AOO 4.1.7 under Linux (Debian 10.3) Regards
