Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 128399
Insert > Special Character - clicking empty cell in Characters Table
Last modified: 2020-08-04 18:10:35 UTC
Created attachment 86971 [details] Screenshots relevant to this issue Entry in Help topic "Special Character" says: "Click the special character(s) that you want to insert, and then click OK." No mention of inserting character(s) into document via double click in Characters Table. Steps: 1. In AOO Writer choose 'Insert > Special Character' ("Special Characters" dialog appears") 2. Choose "Times New Roman" font (if not already chosen) 3. Scroll down the view to the end of Characters Table. 3. Click the last cell with visible character i.e."OBJ". ("OBJ" appears in "Characters:" area) 4. Click mouse in any empty cell to the right of "OBJ" cell. ("OBJ" character is added to the sequence). 5. Double click in any empty cell to the right of "OBJ" cell. The sequence of chosen characters is inserted into document. Behaviour in point 4. and 5. is unexpected and wrong. Nothing should be added to the sequence if user clicks an empty cell (let alone inserting the sequence into document via double click). Entry in Help topic "Inserting Special Characters" reads: "In any text input field (such as the input fields in the Find & Replace dialog) you can press Shift+Ctrl+S to open the Special Characters dialog." Following this example and checking "empty cell" issue proves that: - double clicking on any cell doesn't work - nothing is inserted into input field of "Find & Replace" dialog. - clicking an empty cell may set the focus (blue background) to the cell with gray background (wrong behaviour). NOTE: Issue also observed in AOO 4.1.7
