Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 12846
Comments not as functional as they could be.
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:42:49 UTC
This is an enhancment request to modify how comments work. I'm using for my example the functionality as provied in WordPerfect since version 6. What I would like to see is the following; each user has a color (selected or assigned) and their initials for identification of who is the writer of the note (comment). The place of insertion is marked by some pointer when the cursor is placed over the comment indicator (colored box, knock out, etc) and then a set of options are offered: a) insert the comment, b) edit the comment, or c) delete the comment. By having the color attached to the comments, it is much easier to identify the author. Allowing the comment to be both edited and inserted means that there is far less opportunity to mis-type what has already been provided and simplifies its aplication. For those of us who have to pass around documents for several individuals to edit and provide comments, this is a real time saver as well as a great way for letting all involved see who is suggesting what.
This enhancement should probably be an addition to enhancement # 6193, which has already been assigned and has a couple of votes.
SBA: Reassigned to Bettina from the User Experience team for consideration.
This would be functionally equivalent to embedded comments in Microsoft Word, and IMO is a necessary improvement, as it's in extensive use at some publishers and law firms.
