Description cde 2003-04-04 09:03:53 UTC
I have a doc with a few line-drawings - bubbles, arrows and text.
When opened under openoffice, almost everything "worked" (looked
as good or better than word). However some connectors required
that I edit them and put them back in the *same place*...
The lines seem in fact to be infulenced by the text around them.
When I create a test file with only the drawing, it opens perfectly.
When I include the surrounding text, the some arrows take a short-cut ;)

Its very minor, but it could be indiciataive of something else...

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Verified 1.1 Beta 2.

Reassigned to MRU
Comment 4 michael.ruess 2003-07-14 12:17:40 UTC
MRU->SJ: I am not an export of thoses "Connctors", because the Writer
does not have in UI for this. So my question is: Can the import of the
connectors be improved?
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2003-07-14 12:17:58 UTC
Re-targeted to 2.0.
Comment 6 sven.jacobi 2003-07-18 09:32:29 UTC
It won't be easy, but I hope that we will be able to improve the
import of connectors soon.
Comment 7 sven.jacobi 2003-07-18 09:33:20 UTC

sj: Changed the title, so that this issue is also addressing the export of
connectors. In general to fix this issue we need to load/save also path
characteristics of the connector.

I think that the ammount of duplicates (and duplicates in the refering issues)
should indicate that end-userd do see this as a significant issue. It is quite
minor, but affecting a lot of people.
I am not suggesting that OOo should follow strictly the mechanism used by MSO to
render Bezier connectors. Simply his difference in the rendering should be
realized and indicated in Help and Documentation guides.

Comment 32 Rainer Bielefeld 2007-01-06 08:38:37 UTC
I doubt that only WIN NT is affected, and I also doubt that LATER is an
adequate time schedule. Presentations ar an office application where
interoperability is very important, but currently the connector export causes
too many problems, so that it seems keen to risk to export an IMPRESS document
to the PP format and trust that it can be presented with PP.

Of course it is very very difficult to reach a perfect export, so that
everything looks identical to the .odp when you open an exported ppt with
POWERPOINT. But a realistic and reachable goal should be that OOo will show
exported .ppt documents without changes to the original .odp. Currently that is
not realized satisfactory as attached test.odp shows (please compare the
different views).

'test.odp' has been created with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP:
[680m5(Build9011)]", I just saw that the export has been improved in "2.1.0
German version WIN XP: [680m6(Build9095)]". It's still not really satisfactory,
but some stumbling blocks have been eleminated.

Most comments here minimize this issue. It does not just affect power point
documents, but it affects also drawings created inside Word.

Effectively, this bug (and a couple of others) lmit the usage of OOffice with
word documents: You open a word docuemtn, add some text, save, you effectively
destroyed the diagrams contained in the document.
