Description gemal 2003-04-07 22:05:07 UTC
having "heading 10" in the default Paragraph styles makes it look weird since 10
is just after 1. Currently it's:
heading 1
heading 10
heading 2
heading 9

Either we should fix the order so it's:
heading 1
heading 2
heading 9
heading 10

or we should just remove heading 10. Who will ever need 10 headings???

Thank you for your suggestion Henrik.

SBA: I talked to OS about this. Here's three ideas about it:

(1) Adding another space between the string and the one digit number
would solve the problem. Then the Stylist would show this:

Heading 1
Heading 2
Heading 9
Heading 10

In my opinion this should not be a problem at all because the name
"Heading" is localized anyway, so this string is exchangeable at will
(= without a problem when exchanging files between different localized

(2) Simply removing "Heading 10" from the default style list is
another easy solution. I am sure that 10 is far more than the "averege
user" will EVER need in a document. My personal experience shows that
6 levels would do for the vast majority of users. (Note: Offering 10
levels of outline numbering is not touched by the number of default

(3) Another solution (looks "too expencive" at first glance): To
implement a sort algorythm that cuts the entries into numeric and
non-numeric parts. This could provide the desired sort order without
any string changes.

cmc: This is my favorite natural number sorter It seems to have an acceptable
licence for use in OOo

Hi Folks,
OS and I agree to option 1. Like SBA says, we don't have the resources
for option 3, nor does the priority of this issue warrant major work.

I'll write a comment for these strings (Heading 1 - 9) so that the
translators know that they have to add a second space between word and

Regarding option 2, I think removing Heading 10 is not good, since if
someone used it in the past we'd have a compatibility (old SO to new
SO) problem. Not to mention the dependency that the outline levels
have on these levels.

p.s.please send task to OS

Oops! It seems I jumped the gun. I didn't notice that this is still an
untargeted request for enhancement. We'll have to wait till it is
approved and targeted before sending it to OS.
Sorry about that.
Comment 6 bettina.haberer 2003-10-10 16:10:40 UTC
Never mind Elizabeth.
I back solution 1 (further space) and 3. If resources allow it, we
could try to implement the sort algorithm to split the entries into
non-numeric and numeric parts. Target set to OO.o 2.0.
I'll change the owner, when we are approving it.
Comment 7 anthonymerhi 2003-10-13 01:10:20 UTC
I think that the Contents 1-10 styles and User Index 1-10 styles would
also benefit from this improvement.

Hello Oliver,it is late, sorry, but is there a chance to add solution (3) for Q?
Comment 9 Oliver Specht 2004-04-13 06:34:01 UTC
No, I don't see a chance. It's only a P4.
Comment 10 bettina.haberer 2004-04-23 16:49:20 UTC
Ok, this issue is considered for OOo later.
Comment 11 kasey 2004-07-11 08:59:06 UTC
Removing a space from "Heading 10" must be simpler.
This is duplicate to Issue 3788 and Issue 28937 .

What about updating this issue's metadata:

- Version 1.1 -> 2.0 Beta (.95)
- Platform/OS: I don't think this is specific to Win2k.
- Type: Without disputing about words...shouldn't it be a "Patch" (fix) instead
of an Enhancement? (It's not a bug...)

Comment 19 stp 2006-03-14 20:29:25 UTC
suggestion: remove space in front of 10 which only looks silly 3 times instead
of double spaces which looks silly 27 times.
Comment 20 stp 2006-05-03 19:39:38 UTC
You can't remove space in front of 10 after all because the items "User index
heading" and "Contents heading" will pop in between "Contents 9" and
"Contents10". You have to use double spaces in front of 1-9.
Comment 21 stp 2006-06-03 08:46:51 UTC
Attached patches is a no go. Apparently there are some ties between the
gui-strings in the stylist and in the dropdown style selection. Instead, the
sorting in the stylist must be enhanced.

Is there any way we can re-use the code I wrote for Issue 26565 ? --Kohei

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
