Description mjevans 2003-04-10 23:29:41 UTC
The toolbar button that toggles visual display of nonprinting characters has no
effect on optional hyphens. This behavior is wrong. These hyphens become
annoying to look at all the time, but are mandatory for good page formatting.
The task is to treat optional hyphens just like other nonprinting characters.
When the toggle is OFF, only those hyphens that will actually print should be
shown. The rest are in fact 'nonprinting characters.'

Oh come on now. This problem still exists in 1.1 and a very simple
test would have shown it to you. I should not have to run this test
myself but have done so anyway in 1.1 final which I have installed on
other machines. If you don't understand the problem, just type some
text that includes optional hyphens and then use the paragraph-mark
toolbar button. None of the optional hyphens disappear.
