Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13311
[RFE] Directory where to export PDF should be remembered
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:16 UTC
When I try to save a PDF the program proposes the directory where the file is open. Even if I change the directory, the next time I try to resave the PDF it proposes yet the first directory. I think it should be better than OOo reminds the last directory where the PDF has been saved.
cp->pl: is this something to fix easily ? otherwise rfe for 1.y
pl->fs: i can think of two ways implementings this; either the filepicker could save its last path on a per filetype basis or the PDF export UI could do this specifically for PDF. I send this issue to you since it is a UI issue either way.
yet another file-picker-automatically-choses-the-completely-wrong-location-when-opened issue. The proper way to fix this, in my opinion, is some kind of context system: The file picker can be operated in various "contexts", where several information (such as the last directory, some check button state, and such) are made persistent on a per-context basis. Pre-defined contexts then would include "OfficeFileOpen", "OfficeFileSave", "OfficeExportAsPDF", "OfficeInsertGraphics", "OfficeBrowseClasspath", and such. Components would be allowed to either create own contexts (by simply specifying them), such as e.g. "AutoPilotSaveForm", or re-use one of the pre-defined (and documented) existing contexts. At least the sketch above is what AS, TRA, and me agreed upon quite some time ago (which doesn't finally mean it's thought to an end and nailed down :). There are other bugs floating aroung which can be solved with such a concept, too, so we should really address this in the 2.0 timeframe ... I change the issue type to ENHANCEMENT, confirm it as a valid RFE, change the summary from "Directory where to export PDF" to "[RFE] Directory where to export PDF should be remembered", change the platform/OS to all, and target the issue to OOo 2.0. Additionally, I change the QA contact fropm gsl@ooo to ui@ooo and add the former to the interest list - if anybody of the gsl people feels that this is wrong (and not changing it yourself was not intentional), then please remove gsl@ooo from the interest list.

assigning to user experience team for consideration

See also 62906. Could offer one possible (partial) solution for this issue.
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on my owner to the owner "requirements".
I believe that a related issue to this is that if you start a new document and do not save the file when you go to export as PDF it chooses a really wrong directory to do so. Instead of defaulting to the 'My Documents' directory, on linux this is often $Home/Documents, as set in OOo options it defaults to .openoffice.org/3/user/gallery/ which is entirely wrong.
Note the above apparently only happens when using writer or impress, it seems to work correctly with calc for whatever reason.
