It would be extremely important, for OpenOffice to really replace MS-Office in
certain environments, that the PDF export function could correctly export the
links within a document (be it internet links or intra-document links) to the
resulting PDF file.

I expected the new PDF export function allowed me to finally replace the
MS-Office/Acrobat Writer combo for producing electronic documents, but without
link export support I'll still have to wait it seems...

sounds like a dup of bug 10199

duplicate - issue 10199 is about "printing" to a PDF using special
escape-sequences in the "printout"  issue 12836 is about adding the
hyperlink functionality in OOo's own PDF-export capabilities..
