when i paint the background of a text, the icon became with colored background,
and a single click perform the right operation coloring the background of the
selected text. If I choice transparent the icon became with trasparent
background but a single click doesen't perform the right operation, it color the
background of the selected text with the last chosen color, so to make the
background transparent I have always to choise with prolonged click the option
transparent.

Does this problem still exist in 1.0.3.1?

If so, could you list, clear and simple step by step instructions on
how to reproduce this error?

Please try using the latest OOo 1.1 Rc5, 
Your version already old enough, and many bug fixes since your version 
and 1.1 RC5. If the problem still happend in 1.1 RC5 please report back
