Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14248
writer cannot save, backup warning
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:28 UTC
Every time I try to save a warning pops up saying "Unable to save backup copy" if I continue none of my changes have been saved to the original document.
OOo 1.1 Beta, RedHat 9 (Shrike) I'm seeing this as well.... . It only occurs on files that have been saved previously - first-time saves are ok. This is dataloss as far as I'm concerned - the only way to prevent it is to save as a new file each time. OFFTOPIC - Is there a "dataloss" keyword in OOo's Issuezilla, like in Mozilla's bugzilla?
I experimented, using only one writer document. I could not reproduce this running 1.1 beta on RH 9 Linux. I tried a few techniques. I started a doc, I saved. I editted the doc, and let it auto save. I closed the doc and OOo, and reopened everything, then repeated the same test. I closed the file only, leaving the OOo desktop running. After reopening it it saved again with no problems. I have not altered any paths in OOo setup. My setup in that regard is as it was when installed. Could the failing systems be trying to write to a directory that does not write permissions by the user?
It occurs after the original document has been saved, the existing file appears to have rwx permissions but it will not save. I am running Mandrake 9.0
I'll check this.
HI->ijobson: Could you please try to reproduce it as root.
Could not reproduice.
