Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 1476
Virus scanning inside SC
Last modified: 2006-01-12 09:03:20 UTC
Hi, we had some discussions about this earlier, I think it is time to try and address the virus issues once for all... Wouldn't be nice to implement a tool that scans for viruses each message that is posted to any SC mailing list. This is not just for OpenOffice.org but for any project hosted by Collab.net There are a bunch of software pkgs that deal with this kind of problems. I think that this should be addressed on a broad base, rather than project by project. Looking forward to feedback and comments. Max
reassigned
We already have an issue, 943, that is dealing with virus attachments. And I have raised internally with CollabNet a virus-scanning mechanism as you propose here, Max. It is an enhancement and due to be implemented in future versions of SourceCast. (I got the VP of marketing sold on the idea.) I'm downgading it to a p4 because of the uncertain nature of the CollabNet enhancement request (I don't know when the implementation will take place). -louis
forgot to accept/ am accepting now.
From what I have been told by the CN product manager, a neartime future release of SC (to appear Q202) will address the issue of attachments if not this one of virus scanning. Closing, filing as "later." louis
> Business impact? While we have some kind of virus protection by stripping attachment a better solution would be the integration of virus protection into the SouirceCast mailing system. Besides the negative publicity of a unprotected system users / customers unsubscribe due to the unrestricted distribution of virus messages. Louis, would you reassign for further handling.
reopen to change the resolution...
Virus protection inside SourceCast (SC) will not be implemented by CollabNet. The protection for the openoffice.org domain is implemeted in the mail exchanger before messages enter SourceCast.
