Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 14775
Installation of OO Beta2 refuses to acknowledge existance of Java RunTime Environments 1.4.0 or 1.3.1_07 under Windows 2000
Last modified: 2003-05-28 09:20:38 UTC
I have the Java 1.4.0 and 1.3.1_07 sdk's installed on my Windows 2000 box. When I tried to Install OO Beta 2, it refused to recognize the existance of any Java Runtime environments on the computer. I have the same set-up at work except the Operating System is Windows 98 Second Edition. When I installed OO Beta 2 on it, the program recognized both Java Runtime environments without a problem.
on my Windows98 installation, Java 1.4.0_01 was also not recognized, then i updated to the latest version, 1.4.1_02 and was recognized. unfortunately, is not specified in the Release Notes or Readme the minimum requirement for Java
see bug 14781 with the same problem, marked now as RESOLVED WORKSFORME

This is not a P1 issue. The requirements have changed. Workaruond: Update jave to 1.4.0_02, 1.4.0_03 etc. 1.4.1_01, 1.4.1_02 etc. 1.4.2 etc. Joachim, please write a 'change mail' to the belonging list.
Note that jvmsetup specifies that you need 1.3.1 or later. If 1.4.x is required, that message should probably be corrected.
This bug was fixed and should be in the next release.
