Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15295
Register-truth in frames
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Text lines in frames aren't register-true to the rest of the document. They are only register-true to the frame. If the position of the frame isn't "right", the lines in the frame are always under or above the lines of the page. I don't know whether this is a bug or a enhancement wish but I think if it isn't a bug in the code, it's a bug in the documentation: > When you define paragraphs, pages or Paragraph and Page Styles as register- > true, the base line will be aligned to correspond with the vertical line grid > of each Paragraph Style defined as a reference Style. [...], and the base > line of the rows next to each other in all register-true paragraphs remain > aligned at the same height. (taken from help of OOo 1.1 beta2, General Glossary)
Hi Rafael, thank you for using and supporting OOo. Does this problem still exist in “1.1RC”? If it does, please attach an OOo-document that reproduces this problem. If not, please also leave a comment, and the issue will be closed. CU Rainer
Created attachment 9300 [details] register-truth is relative to frame
The lines are only relative register-true to the frame they are in. I think that the *documentation* says that *all* lines should be register-true to the whole page.
Yes, I see the problem with 1.1RC4. I am no specialist for those typographic questions, but I think, the problem should be discussed (at least), and so NEW. My opinion: IMHO it does not make any sense to set a preference "register true" for Paragraphs and especially objects like frames or images - it is only senseful for complete pages. How can text be "register true", if you selected "linespacing single" on page 1 and "linespacing 1.5" for a paragraph on page 2". "Register true" preselection only is senseful for at least 2 pages. This should be mentionned in HELP, and perhaps the checkbox should be ghosted, if that proselection is not senseful. I also see another problem: question is "what is a paragraph?". Steps to reproduce: 1. mouseclick into the text outside the frame 2. Menu: Format - Paragraph - Indents and Spacing select "Line Spacing 1.5" result: Text outside the frame will show new spacing (and I think: frame is not a part of the paragraph 3. mouseclick into the text in the frame 4. Menu: Format - Paragraph - Background select "blue" result: more or less complete page will have blue background (and I think: frame _is_ a part of the complete paragraph on the page ??, that contradicts experience of '2.') Might be this should be discussed in a nes issue? Another problem: WORD - compatibility. Steps to reproduce: 1. save original document as word2000 - document 2. Open with WORD expected: should look more or less like OOo Document actual: blue background, alignment of frame is "left" (I do not know anything concerning "WORD- frames") Might be this should be discussed in a nes issue? I will ask for help in [qa-dev] Rainer
Rainer, thanks for looking on this. > My opinion: > IMHO it does not make any sense to set a preference "register true" > for Paragraphs and especially objects like frames or images - it is > only senseful for complete pages. "register true" currently has to be activated first on a page, setting a "reference paragraph style" ("Referenzabsatzvorlage") whose base lines (resulting from line spacing) will be taken as "register truth grid". Then you can decide for each paragraph wheter to aply the "register true" setting or not. Lines of pargraph that are register-true will be always on the "register truth grid" (except for lines inside frames, that's the problem), other lines can be everywhere.
> [...] > 3. mouseclick into the text in the frame I was able to reproduce this, but here you also have to click into the text *outside* the frame, haven't you? > 4. Menu: Format - Paragraph - Background > select "blue" > result: more or less complete page will have blue background > (and I think: frame _is_ a part of the complete paragraph > on the page ??, that contradicts experience of '2.') This is because the frame has no background color (click on frame and select format->frame->background), but the *contets* of the frame *have* a specific line spacing. > Might be this should be discussed in a nes issue? This might seem to be a bit strange, but for me it is normal behavior, so *I* think there is no need for a new issues.
> Another problem: WORD - compatibility. > 1. save original document as word2000 - document Original document or edited (blue background, ...) document? > 2. Open with WORD > expected: should look more or less like OOo Document > actual: blue background, alignment of frame is "left" (I do not Is the alignment "left" as it is or is on "left" side? > know anything concerning "WORD- frames") Strange, in my WordViewe 97 is looks more or less like OOo, only the background of the frame is (now finally ;) , see above) white (and not blue). > Might be this should be discussed in a nes issue? Reopening the ".doc" in OOo also results in a white backgrounded frame, maybe "transparent" isn't supported by Word-Document-Format!? Maybe some devolper can help on this?
Answer to simple question (I am only a user so can't answer the technical questions): A paragraph is anything followed by a "paragraph end" or carriage return ("Return/Enter" key).
SBA: Reassigned to Michael. Target set to OOo 2.0.
Created attachment 9348 [details] please compare: samd document with WORD2000 and OOo 1.1RC4
MRU->FME: the inner spacing of frames is not taken in mind for calculating register truth. I don't know if this is specified or not, but a good thing for "office later".

Sorry for attaching, I confused the bug...
