Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16018
Bitmap bullets not printed when print graphic set is off
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
if a bullet list has graphical bullets (a gif from the gallery), these are not exported to pdf
TM->SBA: Not a framework problem. Seems to be more a export or a filter problem to me, so please have a look.
Reassigned to Hasan.
Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it/faster to confirm. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more time) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem.
.
I can confirm that problem with 1.1.0 German version WIN98SE: 645m19(Build8693) I created attached document "bulletstest.sxw" and exported it with the PDF export function. Result: see "_bulletstest.pdf" (only placeholders) Tested with ADOBE Generic PS printer: Postscript file does not contain bullits, only placeholders. I tried to print on my normal HP Deskjet 895CXi: same result, only placeholders are printed. So: NEW, gsl, changed summary, ALL OS, Version 1.1 Recommended TM 1.1.1 Rainer

Looks quite funny but it shouldn't do that. Since only writer (resp. the drawing layer) knows the placeholder bitmaps i guess the problem is originating from there.
I cannot reproduce a problem. I created a document with bullets, exported as PDF and viewed it with Acrobat Reader 4.0. I couldn't see any graphic! But with a newer version of the Acrobat Reader (5.1) the graphic and the bullets were displayed. Of course if you disable the print option "graphic" you'll get the placeholders instead of graphical bullets. Resume: if you enable printing of graphics and use a new version of Acrobat there should be no problem.
Hi Andreas, you are right, today I was able to export (and print) the attached "bulletstest.sxw" without problems. I made some further tests: I normally have enabled all checkboxes except "print black" in menu "Tools - Options - Text Document - Print" But after I opened "bulletstest.sxw", the checkboxes for "Images" and "Drawings" were disabled. It seems, that sometimes the bullets will be _printed_ correctly even with those disabled checkboxes, and sometimes not. When I open the document a second time, it will be printed _every time_ only with placeholders for the bullets. There seems to be an influence of the document with image- bullets to the text document printer- preferences. I hope, these investigations will help to find the reason for the problem! Rainer
HI->BH: In fact the question is how we should handle bullets when the option to print graphics is off. The print behavior is like in 6.0. In this cause set to Office Later.
Hi, I am afraid, something is running completely wrong here. You are right, it will be interesting do decide how to handle image bullets in a printout, if "print graphics" is off. But that is not the escrow issue here! --------------------------------------- The main problem is, that the graphic bullets have some mysterious influence to the switch "print graphic on/of". Pls. test that effect. That is serious, and may be also dangerous. It must be found out how this "influence" works - for details pls. see my comments Fri Dec 5! After that, we can decide to solve that problem later if it is clear, that there is no danger for other damages. So, back to TM 1.1.1 and "framework" for new consideration especially of my comment Fri Dec 5 concerning checkbox influence. Pls. feel free to find a better "home" for this issue, actually I have no better idea. Rainer
of @ hi: Please have a look at this export issue.
The target 1.1 doesn't make sense. This version is rolled out and we are not in the automobile industrie where you can order back your product to renew some parts to fix bugs. of @ hi: I'Ve set to 'noot detemined', please retarget.
HI->Reiner: The cause for the problem is as I said that the behavior is not clear. And, this will not fixed to OOo 1.1.1! I pass this issue to User Ex. and be sure that we'll work on this case.
HI->FL: Title changed from "bitmap bullets not exported to pdf and also not printed" because it has nothing to do with PDF export.
FL: The printer settings will be stored within the document. So every time the bug doc is loaded, the setting to print graphics is turned off for that document. The current behavior of storing configuration data in a document is not very transparent (only a fixed set of data will be saved in the doc), but could be disabled in Tools-Options-Load/Save-General-Load user-specific settings with the document. FT (Falko Tesch) is currently working on a solution for that document configuration behavior in general. The only inconsistency I can see today is that creating a PDF does not use the printer settings as it is defined, because when I print the attached bugdoc, the graphics wont be displayed, but will be included when creating a PDF file. FL->HI: Please double check the PDF/printing inconsistency described above and forward the bug to the responsible developer for bug fixing.
HI->AMA: I've discussed with FL => The result from the print and PDF must be the same! When the graphic check box is disabled, the PDF should like be the print and must show only the place holders. Only in Windows I could reproduce the inconsistence between printing and PDF.
I couldn't found the problem Rainer described. The printing options are stored within the document (graphic and drawing disabled) and all works as expected. The only difference is that the PDF export simply ignores the printer settings. So we all agree that there's no dangerous behaviour and the only issue left is the inconsistence between printing and PDF export?
Hi, it seems, that no one (me included) is able to reproduce any bug, especially the "influence of bullets to checkbox" reported in comments from rainerbielefeld Fri Dec 5 06:47:41 -0700 2003 That images will not be printed if checkbox "print images" is quite correct. Currently I do not see a real request for a feature "export bullet images to PDF even if checkbox is disabled" or something like that. I believe, if someone needs an option like that, he should open a new isse with that feature request and a specific summary (and a hint to this issue here). If I will not see any objections, I will close this issue in few days. Rainer
Hi Rainer, when I'm right the remaining issue is that the PDF export ignores the disabled controls for graphics. Did you get a PDF without bullets/graphics?
Hi ama, I had it again (arghhh!). No, today my problem was, that OOo ignored an _enabled_ checkbox "print images". The problem is, that sometimes the visible "print images" - checkbox status does not represent the acthal state. You have to change and rechange, after that visible and real status are the same. Steps to reproduce: 0. close all other documents! 1. open a document with images and export to PDF everything should work fine 2. close document 3. open 'bulletstest.sxw' here from the web 4. look at 'tools / options / text document / print checkbox should be _disabled_ I exported to PDF and, completely unexpected: the bullets were visible 5. enable and disable checkbox! 6. export again, you will only see placeholders instead of bullets that is as expected 7. close document 8. reopen document from '2' 9. export to PDF and look: images will be missing 10. look at 'tools / options / text document / print checkbox should be _enabled_ unexpected: why will the images not be exported? 11. close menue, export again result: export still without images print on a normal printer: here the images will be printed 12. look at 'tools / options / text document / print disable and re- enable checkbox "print images" 13. Export again: now it works fine, images will be exported. That all just step by step reproduced with my 1.1.1 German version WIN XP: 645m35(Build8762). So we still have a problem! Can anyone reproduce this? Rainer
