Description esazonov 2001-09-13 21:08:38 UTC
There is an issue that exists in all versions of the OpenOffice (starting from
StarOffice 5.0). Tested on Linux (Mandrake 8.0) and Windows (95, NT 4.0) Namely,
copy/paste operation between a spreadsheet and a text document (performed on
chart objects) does not work properly.

To reproduce:
Create a new spreadsheet. In the spreadsheet, create 3-4 charts. "Group" the
charts. "Copy" the group. "Paste" the group in a text document. An empty frame
will appear.

"Paste special" has different degrees of success depending on the selected type
of the object.

If, instead of "grouping" the charts, they are selected by holding down
Shift+clicking on charts, then "Paste" does not have any visible effect. "Paste
special" sometimes works, sometimes crashes the office (especially if there are
many chart objects or repetitive copy/paste operations).

This is no chart problem. The charts are just saved and loaded as XML. The whole clipboard thing happens in Calc/Writer (to be more precise in the drawing layer).

On paste into Writer there is an assertion: "Error: could not attach shape to layer!"

This is something in the drawing layer.

we never had the feature to transfer ole objects as shapes over the clipboard. Mainly because our drawing layer clipboard format never used storages. We may introduce this feature with our new xml clipboard format. But this has to be investigated

Will have to look into this later

Comment 8 clippka 2001-11-05 11:15:26 UTC
try to set this to LATER again
Comment 9 clippka 2001-11-05 11:17:17 UTC
Ok, LATER was not what I wanted
Comment 10 clippka 2001-11-05 11:18:49 UTC
Ok, sorry for the confusion. Of course this issue is not resolved.
But as a new feature it will not be fixed soon
Comment 11 clippka 2002-12-06 10:19:09 UTC
since its still not sure when we will have this feature, I target it
OOo Later

no crash, so no blocking of 21786
Comment 13 dalo 2004-08-18 18:12:04 UTC
Tested it in OOo 1.1.2 and I noticed that the charts do get copied if they
reside on a calc page and when you copy that page to the same calc document.
(perhaps also to another document)

The only thing is that the internal ranges of that chart are STILL pointing to
the old page.

For now as a workaround you can go into the data of that chart and type the name
of the new page.

I have seen that the last entry was in August ... :( Have you tried it with a newer version of OOo? Does the problem exist
there, too? And have you tried to insert you copied charts via "Edit - Insert Content" (I am not sure, if this is the English
entry ... :( I am working with the German version here ...)?
Comment 16 IngridvdM 2007-07-24 17:16:50 UTC
I tried in OpenOffice 2.2 and this bug seems to not occur anymore.
When I group some charts in calc, copy and paste them to a writer document, then
I get a group of according images and not an empty frame.
-> so I set this issue to 'worksforme' now as the initial bug was fixed
somewhere else.

If there are other problems around copy and paste please write a separat issue.
Thanks a lot.
