Description tg2k 2003-07-29 03:52:30 UTC
This is new as of 1.1rc (did not happen in 1.0.3). If I load a Word (XP
version) .doc file with line numbering on, it restarts it at every page (even
though I had it not doing this--as in no "Restart every new page" checkbox
checked, and the appropriate behavior in 1.0.3). If I save and reload (staying
entirely in Word XP file format), it is broken on load. If necessary, I can
produce files with this behavior.

I guess you take some bad with the good...I'm very pleased that, after syncing
using Docs To Go for Palm, and opening in OpenOffice 1.1rc2, that the margins
now do not get reset.

Attached Word XP .doc reproduces this issue in OOo 1.1 rc2.
Line numbering on page 2 should continue at 16 not restart at 1.
Comment 3 h.ilter 2003-08-05 12:30:09 UTC
Just open the line numbering dialog and disable the check box for
"Restart every new Page"
I'll check the cause for the different setting between 1.0.3 and RC.

I don't understand why this got closed. It may be a nit, in that you
can just reset it from the menu, but the setting is not getting
preserved any longer like it did in 1.0.3 and below, so it seems like
it's still a bug.

I hope I'm not out of line by reopening this (apologies if I am).
Comment 6 h.ilter 2003-08-05 16:02:40 UTC
HI->TG2K: In fact, OO 1.1 doesn't forget the line numbering. In this
case, we have no defect.
The Menu setting is another story and have to write down as a new
issue to avoid confusion.
You do not need to open a new one. I'll do it internal.
Thanks for your attention.

Your indication that there was no bug confused me. I retried in
1.1rc3 and it is still present (at least for me, in Windows XP). I
have submitted a new attachment that demonstrates this problem.

Just in case it isn't completely clear, here is what I'm seeing: The
.doc file contains lots of identical paragraphs. Line numbering is
turned on. At the point when I saved the .doc file, the option
Tools->Line Numbering->Show Numbering is checked. Count Blank Lines
is also checked. Restart every new page is NOT checked.

However, when you load the file, Restart every new page is checked.
The setting is somehow lost between the save and reload. I created
this file as a new file using OpenOffice 1.1.0 rc3, so it should be as
"blank" as is possible aside from the text in it.

I hope that, with this attachment, you are able to repeat the problem
I have.

HI->MRU: As I know you are familiar with the rules about numbering.
Comment 10 michael.ruess 2003-09-24 15:30:40 UTC
MRU->HI: It is nothing of the numbering rules here. The problem is,
that the import should set the correct option.

MRU->CMC: the line numbering should be imported continuous in this case.
