Description richlv 2003-07-31 15:28:41 UTC
1. i'm not sure which component is the correct, so i hope that this will be
redirected to the right one
2. mostly this is for mswindows, but also for different windowsmanagers for *x

there is a need for more advanced file associations management.ideally this
could be achieved by separate page in options.

it could have different files that are supported by oo.org listed. each would
have two checkboxes beside - "change to open with oo.org" and "restore
previous". then, when the user has made his choices he could click "apply" and
these file associations would be changhed accordingly.

also it should include some presets - like dropdownlist with items "all",
"none", "msoffice filetypes", "oo.org filetypes" etc. (for oo.org and restoring
columns separate ones)

and the ability to add custom file types to the list (you can never be shure -
maybe organization as one of securty measures will use internally sxx not sxw.
ok, not the best example). anyway. users must be able easily through gui add new
types that they could register/deregister for oo.org

this association type changer also should change file icons, too (and it should
be able to restore them as well).

ps. this is _not_ meant as replacement for existing tools to modify file
associations, this sort of functionality should be able to convert to oo.org and
restore previous state not only for "open" action but also print. maybe others,
but i think these two should suffice

I hope that I'm not being redundant here, but after reading a comment in issue
81677 (marked a duplicate of this issue) I feel it's necessary to point out that
a growing number of application can/will support the OpenDocument format.

I agree with the sentiment, mentioned in the fifth comment here,:

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=81677

that it could be overload to have to set all association during setup, but ODF
should be one of the formats that you do select or deselect then.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
