If you have some text, say "HAVE", in a font such as Times New Roman.
Then if you select it, and go Format->Character->Position, observe the small 
preview box with the text in it.

Clicking Pair Kerning on and off does not show up in the preview (although 
changing the kerning manually does).

This preview window indeed does NOT show all Writer features because
it is not a "full featured Writer object" shown there (as in the
preview of Indexes). It was designed to show some basic Text formatting. 
Issue Type changed to "Enhancement" 
Reassigned to Bettina.

SBA: Issue Type didn't change. Try again to change to "Enhancement".

This would be a nice to have. It is very valueable to see if the chosen font has
correct kerning tables.

OpenOffice.org Issue Tracker - Feedback Request.

The Issue you raised has the status 'New' pending further action, but has not
been updated within the last 4 years. Please consider re-testing with one of the
latest versions of OOo, as the problem(s) may have already been addressed.
Either use the recent stable version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
