Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17846
copy-when-moving option does not turn off default <ctrl> action
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:30:00 UTC
When the "Copy When Moving" Draw option is selected, the default <ctrl> action (to toggle Snap-To-Grid) remains. Thus, when trying to copy an object by <ctrl><drag>, the snap-to-grid setting is toggled. This is not what the user intends. The Copy-When-Moving option should turn off the toggle-snap-to-grid action. <ctrl> should do one or the other. Not both. By the way,"Copy When Moving" is a very bad name for this option as it does not really describe what the option does. Something like "Ctrl-Drag ro Copy" would be more descriptive. Or give the user two choices for <ctrl> action: 1) toggle Snap-to-grid, 2) Copy dragged objects. Bryan
Reproduceable in a current internal version. Reassigned to Christian.
Set to new.
christian, I also think this is a bug, but disabling snap-to-grid when enabling copy-when-moving does not sound like a good solution to me. What does user expirience thinks about this?
christian, In my opinion we could drop the 'copy while moving' option in tools options and make this behavior a default. This helps us also being more compatible to the behavior of the competition. I recomend to do the following: mouse down -> move mouse down +ctrl -> copy while moving mouse down +ctrl+shift -> copy while moving but horizontally or vertically only When snap to grid is enabled, pressing ctrl shall not disable the snap to grid functionality. When we change this it is important that the documentation gets an update.
Ok, I will change this
