Description Regina Henschel 2003-08-10 11:35:48 UTC
I have got OOo1.1RC2 English on Win98. In the drawingmodul the application
background is white instead of grey and it cannot be changed via
tools->options->appearance.
Comment 1 wolframgarten 2003-08-11 08:18:46 UTC
The white background is intended to be white. The thought behind this
was, that it is more likely in Draw to place objects beneath the
drawing area while the document is in construction.
Do you mean that there is no option to change the color in
tools/options/appearance/draw or does nothing happen when you change
the color under tools/options/appearance/General/document background?
Thanks for your help.
Comment 2 Regina Henschel 2003-08-11 09:37:05 UTC
"... is intended to be white" - that is not good. Especially when you
have zoomed in and get accidentally out off the drawing area, you will
not notice this and loose orientation.
What do you mean by "place objects beneath the drawing area"? If you
mean that they lay beside the drawing area, why should a white
background be better than a grey one?
"no option to change" means, that changings have no effect on the
application background of the drawing-modul. In all other modules it
works fine.
I believe, it is a defect, when such changing has no effect. If an
user likes a white application background, he will choose it. But it
is not correct, to have exact one module, where the user is prevented
to change it at all.
Comment 3 wolframgarten 2003-08-11 12:38:02 UTC
Set to new.
Comment 4 wolframgarten 2003-08-11 12:38:15 UTC
Now I see what you mean.
A white background is better than a grey background because it is a
neutral color. You can work on objects outside the doc and than place
them when you are finished. They would not look different because the
are placed on another color in the doc than outside.

Reassigned to Christian. Please have a look if the application
background color can be applied to Draw, too.
Comment 5 Regina Henschel 2003-08-11 13:35:31 UTC
"You can work on objects outside the doc and than place
them when you are finished." - I use a new slide or layer for drafts.
Thanks, that you have a look on this issue.
Comment 6 clippka 2003-08-26 12:36:22 UTC
It was a design decision to use the same color for application
background as for the document in draw, just as Wolfram pointed out.
This behavior is also some years old now and this is the first complain.
So I don't see a good reason to change this except if you get enough
people to vote for this issue.

Thanks for your input, please understand that we can not consider
every request for changes
Comment 8 Regina Henschel 2003-08-26 16:49:19 UTC
"This behavior is also some years old now" - that's not true. It is
grey in the still actual versions SO6.0 and OOo1.0.3. On the one hand
I can understand Wolfram but on the other hand it's a pity that the
user cannot make a choice although that is possible for the other moduls.
Comment 9 Regina Henschel 2003-09-07 18:40:08 UTC
I don't no, how I became "owner". I have only reported a bug and don't
belong to those, who develop OOo.
Comment 10 wolframgarten 2003-09-08 07:50:01 UTC
So I think that issue type "Enhancement" fits better here. I chnage
the issue type and send it to the appropriate person.
Comment 11 wolframgarten 2003-09-08 07:50:20 UTC
Reassigned to Bettina.
Comment 12 rk 2003-09-14 06:26:42 UTC
I agree 100% with you Regina Henschel, maybe you should also vote for
this issue.

Users should have the option to choose what application background
color they like. Meanwhile, I've switched to impress to do my drawing
work.

Comment 13 bettina.haberer 2003-10-10 10:04:25 UTC
Yes, we should change it and enable switching to other colors for Draw
too. It is irritating, that the background is changable for all apps
except for Draw, and that in the group "General"
(Tools/Options/Appearance/General), so one has no chance to understand
that. And my own experience is, that, if I use the area outside the
Drawdoc, I do it independent of the color, I am not confused by a
color unequal white.
Comment 14 bettina.haberer 2003-10-16 07:59:53 UTC
Oj, what a status 'started wontfix'. I have to change it, so that it
keeps as started.
Comment 15 bettina.haberer 2003-10-16 08:00:39 UTC
closed, to be able to get the status 'Started'.
Comment 16 bettina.haberer 2003-10-16 08:01:02 UTC
Reopened.
Comment 17 bettina.haberer 2003-10-16 08:02:39 UTC
Ok, on 'Started' again.
Comment 18 bettina.haberer 2010-05-21 15:01:11 UTC
To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
