Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18228
Open files via extension type.
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:55:29 UTC
It would be nice to have the spreadsheet open files according to extension type instead of having to scroll through a list of file filters. e.g. a file with extension .xls would be opened as a spreadsheet file, with the correct filter being applied if the file happens to be a comma-delimited file. Currently, the spreadsheet would look at the file then open it as a text file, so I'd have to manually select the .csv filter so it can be opened it in the spreadsheet.
Hi, the filterdetection works for all type of files, so if you name an calc file as wrg it will be opened in Calc. So if you name a text file as XLS it will just open in writer as it is text. This is a key feature of OOo and will not be changed. If you name a txt file as XLS you should be able to name it as CSV which will be opened in Calc presenting you the txt import wizard. So I close this as wontfix. Frank
